I started wearing a face mask on public transportation starting February 10th. As a full term pregnant woman, I didn’t want to risk contracting Covid-19 even if people thought I was being a neurotic soon to be mother. I also thought it might be overkill but I was scared so I wore it anyway. Never in a million years did I foresee that transpiring into a “rule” for all of NYC and many cities beyond. Yet, here we are.
I think about our medical professionals, grocers, waste services professionals, postal workers, delivery workers and everyone in between who look after all of us as we wait out this pandemic. I thank them every time I see them but I always feel it’s not enough.
I struggle to wrap my head around what is happening and how many families are hurting in the wake of this disaster. It helps me to think of all the incredible people who are putting their lives on the line and separating from their families to take care of everyone else. They are true heroes living among us and it’s such a beautiful thing to witness.
As someone who likes to share her hobby of fashion and sprinkle in some life moments, it felt wrong to continuously post and take up space that isn’t helpful during a time like this. I wrote my Birth Story six weeks ago and decided not to post it.
When I read it again today, it reminded me of how amazing my experience at Lenox Hill really was and how many people it took to make that happen. I want to share that story. I also think reading it might be a nice distraction for some of you sitting home. So, you can swipe up in my stories or head to girlonfifth.com to read it.
This story and many other like it would not be possible without the help of our NYC healthcare professionals. Please go to the link in my bio to donate to NYC health + hospitals. Your donations will contribute to meals, groceries for families of health workers, hotel expenses for out of town professionals, laundry services and taxi rides. It’s the least we can do. ❤️
