September 1st.
I wanted to give my bride a surprise, so I decided to write a special text on her veil. In my head, it was going to be EASY. 😂
I had already gone to the printer with the veil and even my garment bag that I bought from China. I explained exactly what I wanted, and the printer gave me what I would call a professional consultation. He advised me on the process, we agreed on a price, and I didn’t even bargain. I was happy because, finally, I was going to get the exact result I wanted. 😌
September 1st was printing day.
I got there early because I genuinely couldn’t wait to see the outcome. We decided to start with the garment bag.
He positioned the print on the bag and then brought out an IRON.
I started having doubts when I saw him place the iron directly on the print. 😭
But okay… professional consultation, remember?
Then, as the iron touched the bag, I watched the fabric start changing shape. 🥵
After a few seconds, we lifted the iron to check our work.
THE PRINT HAD NOT TRANSFERRED.
And my beautiful garment bag?
BURNT.
At that point, I said, “Okay, at least I still have another one. Let’s do the veil.” 😭
Surely, we had learnt from the first mistake, right?
WRONG.
This time, he used paper to cover every part of the veil except where the print was supposed to go. As he started rubbing the iron over it, I noticed something…
A BIG. FAT. HOLE. 🙆🏾♀️😭
I became light-headed.
I didn’t know whether to cry, laugh, or just disappear.
This man had killed me. 😭😭😭
And the timing? Absolutely wicked.
I was supposed to travel to Port Harcourt in TWO DAYS for my bride’s fitting.
The veil net I needed was only sold in Aba, and the replacement veil also had to be completely beaded around.
So what did I do?
I spent the rest of that day TREKKING around Abakaliki, looking for veil net, hoping that by some miracle I would find one.
Nothing.
By the end of the day, I had only ONE possible option:
Go for the fitting with the defective veil and make another one afterwards. 🥲
That day taught me SO many lessons about printing, materials, asking the right questions, and most importantly… professionalism sometimes is not by years in the business.
But guess what?
Do you know how I eventually found out the actual printing method I was supposed to use?
AI.
My able teacher. 😂😂😂
I literally went back to AI and started asking questions like, “How exactly do I print this on this type of fabric?” and that was how I discovered what should have been done from the beginning.
Anyway, I survived September 1st. 😂
And my bride still got her surprise… eventually. ❤️
