Unpopular opinion: expensive yarn won't make you a better crocheter. Fight me in the comments.
I know, I know. The luxury fibers feel incredible. The Instagram-worthy skeins photograph beautifully. But here's the thing nobody wants to admit: your tension, your stitch consistency, and your ability to read a pattern - none of that improves because the yarn costs more.
I learned to crochet almost entirely on budget acrylic. Cheap, scratchy, unglamorous acrylic. And what did it teach me? How to actually control my hook. How to fix mistakes without panicking about "wasting" expensive fiber. How to practice without financial guilt every time I frogged a project.
The fancy yarn came later, once I already had the skill to actually do it justice. Buying luxury fiber as a beginner is like buying professional camera gear before you understand lighting. The gear isn't the bottleneck. The skill is.
This isn't a hate post on nice yarn; I use it now, and I love it. But if you're a beginner feeling embarrassed about your acrylic stash, please don't be. That's literally where the real skill gets built.
Agree or disagree? Tell me which camp you're in.
