Happy new month, let’s start the month by educating ourselves.

Not every pattern with a color is adire.

Original adire batik is dyed, not printed, that is why no two pieces are the same.

Machine prints repeat perfectly because a machine made them.

Imperfection is not a mistake.
It’s authenticity.

Adire is not Batik and Batik is not Adire.
Though both are resist dye techniques, their stories are different.

Adire, a Yoruba heritage, is created by tying, stitching, or binding fabric before dyeing. The patterns emerge from patience, hands, and tradition every fold tells a story passed down through generations.

Batik, on the other hand, originates from Indonesia and is made by drawing with hot wax on fabric before dyeing. The wax resists the dye, forming detailed lines and motifs like written art.

Understanding the difference is a way of respecting culture, craft, and history.
When we name our textiles correctly, we honor the hands and heritage behind them.

Dewaxing is the process of removing wax from already waxed fabrics after dyeing has been completed.
This stage reveals the true beauty of the design sketched on the fabric.

It’s always a beautiful and satisfying moment for textile designers seeing the patterns come alive.
We draw strength and inspiration from the satisfaction we get from every production.
