🚨 5 MISTAKES BEGINNER TAILORS MAKE
If you’re learning how to sew, making mistakes is completely normal. But some mistakes can be avoided if you know what to look out for.

Here are 5 common mistakes beginner tailors make and what you can do differently:

1️⃣ Cutting without checking your measurements
Never rush to cut your fabric because you’re excited to start sewing. Double-check your measurements before placing your scissors on the fabric.
Measure twice, cut once! ✂️

2️⃣ Ignoring seam allowance
Your measurements may be correct, but if you don’t account for seam allowance, your finished garment may end up too tight or too small.
Learn how much seam allowance each garment requires and be consistent.

3️⃣ Not pressing your garment
Pressing is not just for the final stage.
Press your seams as you sew. Proper pressing helps your garment sit better and gives your work a cleaner, more professional appearance.

4️⃣ Rushing the finishing
A beautiful outfit can lose its appeal because of poor finishing.
Don't rush your hems, seams, necklines, sleeves or loose threads just because you want to finish quickly.
The little details matter.

5️⃣ Using expensive fabric before you’ve practised
One of the most painful beginner mistakes is experimenting on expensive fabric before mastering the technique.
Start with affordable fabric while practising a new style or technique. Make your mistakes there, learn from them, and improve before moving to premium fabrics.

Remember, every professional tailor was once a beginner.
Don't be afraid of mistakes. Just make sure you are learning from them instead of repeating them.

If you're learning to sew, which of these mistakes have you made before? 😂

Growth begins the moment we choose to keep learning.
I'm grateful to have successfully completed the Wema Bank SME Business School, an enriching experience that challenged my thinking, broadened my perspective, and equipped me with practical strategies for building a stronger and more sustainable business. It was 3 days of learning, unlearning and relearning.

As the Founder of Bonirah Koncept Innovations Limited, I am committed to creating a brand that is not only known for timeless fashion but also for excellence, innovation, and empowering others through fashion and skills development. The knowledge gained over the past few days will help shape our next phase of growth as we strengthen our operations, improve customer experience, and position our brand for greater opportunities within and beyond Nigeria.

A heartfelt thank you to Bank for investing in entrepreneurs and creating a platform where business owners can learn, connect, and grow. This experience has reinforced my belief that successful businesses are built by leaders who never stop learning.

The future of Bonirah Koncept Innovations Limited is brighter than ever, and I'm excited for all that's ahead.

Here's to growth, purpose, and building a timeless legacy.

Bonirah Koncept Innovation Limited is a dynamic fashion brand rooted in craftsmanship, creativity, and culture. We specialize in bespoke tailoring, custom-made outfits, ready-to-wear collections, accessories, and fashion training—serving both men and women who want to look effortlessly elegant without compromising their identity.
At Bonirah, we are not just making clothes; we are building confidence, preserving culture, and creating opportunities through fashion.

A major gap we are addressing is the dependence on client-supplied fabrics before production can begin. Many individuals desire stylish Afrocentric outfits but are often limited by time constraints, stress, or difficulty accessing quality fabrics and skilled tailors. This slows down both customer experience and business growth.
Bonirah is solving this challenge by strengthening our ready-to-wear segment—developing beautiful, functional pieces that are immediately available. This eliminates production delays while still delivering the rich, classy, effortlessly put-together look our customers love.

This ₦1,000,000 grant will be a game-changer in helping us transition into scalable production. The funds will be invested directly into sourcing quality fabrics, an industrial sewing machine, and a fiber gold mannequin. This investment will enable us to produce ready-to-wear collections in batches, allowing us to generate income without relying solely on bespoke orders, maintain consistent sales, and meet growing demand. It will also create more job opportunities for tailors within our organization.

More importantly, it positions Bonirah for sustainable growth, increased visibility, and deeper impact in empowering women to embrace Afrocentric fashion with ease and confidence.

Happy 50th Birthday, Sir. Your best days are ahead.

At the burial ceremony of Mummy Evang. Dr. Toun Soetan, we honor and celebrate a life beautifully lived. You were a blessing to many, and your impact will continue to speak for generations, ma.

Bonirah’s Koncept will truly miss you 💔. Mummy Sis Dammy contacted me to make dresses for your granddaughters for the burial. During their fitting, Lulu, after putting on her owambe dress, softly said, “Grandma would have loved this.” That moment was deeply emotional—it reflects just how much you are missed.

Rest on, ma, with your “Darling Jesus” until we meet again, never to part.
