For the International Day of the Girl Child, I eagerly stepped up to volunteer with Tech4Dev for their Tech Girl Advocacy Drive. The mission was to engage and inspire young girls about the vast opportunities in STEM education and careers in technology. To my surprise, I was appointed as the state head for Osun State and as the regional head for Ile-Ife. This involved participating in online meetings, overseeing the advocacy's progress, and working with other regional heads to ensure everything ran smoothly.
Initially, I felt a mix of excitement and apprehension at the responsibility of leading such an intelligent and diverse group of women. However, our collective dedication and synergy ultimately led to a successful outcome. Our team's visit to Urban-Day Grammar School in Ile-Ife on October 25th was a pivotal moment in our outreach efforts. We engaged the girls in meaningful discussions about the significance of choosing careers in STEM and the countless benefits and opportunities that accompany such paths.
The entire journey was undoubtedly demanding; managing schedules, organizing meetings, and ensuring effective communication across teams were quite challenging. However, the joy of interacting with these young minds and witnessing their enthusiasm and curiosity overshadowed any exhaustion I might have felt. It was an incredible learning experience for me.
Looking ahead, I'm eager to continue supporting such initiatives. The relationships forged and the learnings gathered from this experience are invaluable. I'm immensely grateful to Tech4Dev for entrusting me with this role and for the chance to be a part of an impactful program dedicated to empowering young girls in pursuing their dreams in STEM.
