Thank you for every referral, every recommendation, every kind word, every prayer, and every appointment booked over the last ten years.

Many of you have been with us from the very beginning, and through every season, you have remained.

Even when we disappeared from social media for months at a time, you never disappeared from us. You kept showing up.

You trusted us.

You believed in us.

You told others about us.

You carried this brand in ways you may never fully realise.

There have been days when I questioned whether I should keep going. Then the phone would ring. A message would come in. Someone would book an appointment, even on our off days for the next available day.

Those moments reminded me that what we have built is much bigger than a business.

It is a community.

A family.

A safe space.

For that, I will remain forever grateful.

Today as we celebrate our brand we celebrate a young woman too

Our first.

My first.

When Modest Muslimah Lounge opened its doors, Eniola was there. She joined us as a hairstylist, but over the years, she evolved into a pedicurist and eventually became our obongë TradSpa specialists.

The truth is, Eniola and I grew together.

Neither of us had all the answers. We learnt on the job, through countless experiences, mistakes, victories, and challenges. Over the last ten years, we have taught each other patience, resilience, perseverance, and above all, that growth is always possible when you are willing to learn.

Through every season, Eniola has remained committed, not just to the business, but to me as a person.

She is honest. She is hardworking. She is dependable.

Like every human being, she has her imperfections. We have had our misunderstandings, our setbacks, and moments when I would vex say, “Oya, oya… you can go, I’m tired!” 😂

She too would change “dimension” for a while.

But somehow, we always found our way back to the middle. We talked, we understood each other, we compromised, and we kept moving forward.

That, to me, is what loyalty truly looks likenot perfection, but choosing to stay, grow, and work through difficult moments.

It would be impossible to tell the story of Modest Muslimah Lounge without mentioning Eniola.

She has stood by me through personal challenges, business struggles, work pressures, and life’s many twists and turns. She has been there for my family, for our clients, and for this brand in ways words cannot fully capture.

So today, as we celebrate ten beautiful years of Modest Muslimah Lounge, we also celebrate Eniola.

Thank you for your patience.

One thing I should mention is that I come from a family with absolutely no history of entrepreneurship.

My father is a firm believer in the traditional 9-to-5 life. My mother worked in healthcare. Every one of my siblings is a desk jockey. So, when this dream began to take shape, it wasn’t as though I had a family business to inherit or experienced entrepreneurs to guide me.

It was simply a case of, “How do I do this? Where do I even begin?”

None of my siblings could quite relate, and to my father, it probably didn’t make much sense. But somehow, I knew I had to try.

Yaya Abatan became the home of my very first business. Modest Muslimah Lounge became my first baby.

And just like that, the dream began to unfold.

We opened our doors. We recruited our first staff members. Rukaiyya continued to train the team, and even today, we still call on her from time to time to refresh our henna skills and maintain the standards she helped establish.

Slowly but surely, I began to meet incredible women. One referral led to another, and our little community started to grow.

Ten years ago, I had a vision; not necessarily born out of passion, but from the realization that women desperately needed a place where they could relax, unwind, and take care of themselves after the daily demands of juggling work, motherhood, business, and every other responsibility life throws at us.

Like many dreams, it started small, I mean , very small. My balcony became my first workspace. It was there that my dear namesake, Rukaiyya, the Shuwa Arab lady to whom I owe so much, would lovingly attend to the needs of my small circle of clients.

Before long, something unexpected began to happen. Women started flocking into our compound; a block of eight flats, knocking on every door in search of “the lady that does henna.”

One day, my neighbour from Flat 1 came to me and said:

“Matar Baba,” as she fondly called me, “Wallahi, women keep knocking on my door asking for henna, and gaskiya, maigida ya fara complain.” 😄

(“Honestly, my husband has started complaining.”)

Many people naturally assumed she was the henna artist because she was Kanuri. I, being Yoruba, would probably have been the last person anyone expected! 😂

Her complaint was completely valid. It was also the moment reality set in. This little side hustle had outgrown my balcony and our residential compound. It was time to find a proper space.

So, the search began.

At the time, we lived on Iju Road, so I searched around Ogba and Yaya Abatan, hoping to find somewhere that could become the next chapter of this dream.

Eventually, we found our very first shop on Yaya Abatan🩷a place that will forever hold a special place in my heart. That little shop wasn’t just our first business address; it was where Modest Muslimah Lounge truly began to take shape. Looking back today, I smile because every milestone started with that tiny balcony, a loyal friend, a handful of customers, and a dream that simply refused to stay small.

This is showing love by protecting peace and well being. Encouraging rest, respecting boundaries, offering emotional safety, and creating space for healing and self care communicate deep consideration.
