Come let's talk about sewing pins. Some don't know the importance of sewing pins. Don't be surprised that some designers don't use sewing pins, they say it's for beginners.

Listen, PINS are not for beginners. It is a very important tool and used all the time in your sewing projects.

Sewing pins are used to hold pattern to fabric
They are used to hold seams before stitching
They are used to fit fabrics on the body

Your pressing iron is a very important tool in your fashion journey

Please use it well

Press at every step of your sewing process

Press your lining (if rough)
Press your fabric before cutting (if rough)
When you sew your darts, press very well
When you sew your necklines, press very well
When you join your bodice, press very well
(You can add to the list)

The lists goes on and on

Biko, press as much as you can.

At every step of your sewing, make sure you use your pressing iron

Scissors/Shears are very important tool for every fashion designers used in cutting fabric, pattern papers to desired shapes and sizes.

Sew Tribe, please categorize your scissors into 2

1. Fabric Scissors - These are scissors that will be used to cut only fabrics. It has different shapes and sizes with varying degrees of sharpness and hardness.

2. Paper Scissors - These are scissors that will be used to cut your pattern papers

DOS AND DON'T OF A FABRIC SCISSORS

* Don't used your fabric scissors to cut your pattern papers, it will make your scissors blunt.
*Don't use your fabric scissors for domestic use
* Tighten the pivot screw and oil them periodically
* Keep them clean
* Check twice, cut once
* Keep them well when not in use

Let's discuss two methods of making an outfit

1. Pattern drafting method - This method is first done on a pattern paper where different manipulations can be done before transferring to the fabric.

2. Free hand method - In this method, cutting is done directly on the fabric with little or no manipulations.

I use both methods depending on the style I'm working on.
