There is this t**h buka that I recently discovered. They make tasty meals, and their prices are quite moderate.
The few times I've been there, I noticed that the owner, who is a middle-aged woman, has young girls in their late teens and early twenties working for her.
I noticed that three of the girls were her biological daughters because of the close resemblance they share. They were unusually chatty and very free with the customers.
But, there is this girl who was usually mute. She serves the customers their food, collects money, and returns their change without talking. Very weird!
She does not greet or respond to greetings. Initially, I thought she was deaf and dumb, but I realized that she can hear.
Ironically, she is the prettiest of them all. With a caramel skin that shines like polished stone, and a budding hourglass shape in its formative stage. This teenage girl who should be not less than eighteen years, was a beauty to behold.
So, it was a surprise to me yesterday when I was waiting for my client to pick up her Viance fibroid tea, someone stood in front of me and said "Brother, good afternoon sir."
I looked up, and it was the assumed deaf girl from the buka, staring at me. I couldn't believe my eyes as I just stood there speechless, trying so hard to be sure that I wasn't dreaming.
"Good afternoon customer," she said again, this time, with a raised voice.
I nodded my head at her before asking her how she was doing. She said she was doing fine. I couldn't hide my surprise and shock any further, so I asked her,
"What happened? I thought you were deaf?" She smiled and shook her head before telling me that nothing was wrong with her.
"So why do you prefer to be deaf?"

"It's my madam ooo. When she employed me, she told me that she wouldn't want her customers, especially the male ones to talk to me. She said it will bring distraction to her business. Besides, she wants her wealthy customers to notice her three daughters first. So I had to play dumb if I must work for her."
"But why will you accept such ridiculous condition of service?" I asked her in bewilderment.
She replied that she took the job so she can raise money to pay for fashion training.
When I asked her if she feels bad because of the job condition, she said that it is even in her favor as everyone sees her as dumb and most clients always leave her with change. Besides, she is already 20 years and the only thing on her mind is how to secure her future. We talked a little more, exchanged contact, and I bade her goodbye.
