When I was in 300 level, we had a course called GST 302—an entrepreneurship course. As part of the assessment, we were asked to write a presentation, which I did diligently.
However, just a day before the scheduled presentation, we were informed that we also needed to bring a sample of the product we were presenting. I was totally confused. What was I supposed to do at such short notice?
I reached out to one of my coursemates, and she told me not to stress and just to come with fabrics. 😃 But deep down, I wasn’t convinced. I believed we were expected to present a finished product, not just raw materials.
So, I ransacked my room and found a leftover fabric. I also had a navy blue gown I no longer wore, and that’s when an idea sparked, I decided to revamp it. I combined both materials, and that’s how the beautiful dress you're seeing was made.
I absolutely loved the outcome.
Once I was done sewing, I carefully packed the dress in my branded packaging nylon and sprayed a little perfume on it. I wondered if I was doing too much, but I felt confident about my effort.
On the day of the presentation, many people didn’t bother much 😅. But I stood out. From the moment my supervisor began unwrapping the dress, to catching the attention of others,
I felt so proud. I made a strong impression, and that day, I didn’t just present a dress, I gained a client from the staff and caught the attention of prospective ones.
