🌧️ June Rainfall Update for Yola & Climate Advisory for Adamawa, Northeast, and Northern Nigeria 🌾
As of June 2025, Yola has recorded 140.0mm of rainfall for the month, with long dry intervals between rains. The total rainfall so far this year is 289.3mm.
📉 What This Means
We’re seeing signs of a potentially serious climate pattern affecting Adamawa, the Northeast, and much of Northern Nigeria, and it is important we prepare early.
🔴 Drought Risk:
Starting late July to mid or late August, a prolonged dry spell is likely across the north, with the possibility of 21+ days without rain in some parts of Adamawa and surrounding states. Southern Nigeria may experience even longer dry periods.
🌊 Flood Threat to Follow:
By late August, rain is expected to return, but with force. We could be looking at heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and flash floods, posing serious risks to farms, homes, roads, and lives.
✅ What to Do Now:
• Farmers: Take advantage of current rainfall in the next 2 weeks, harvest early or adjust planting to avoid losses.
• Communities: Prepare for dry spells and later flooding, especially those in low-lying or riverine areas.
• Agencies and leaders: Activate early warning systems and improve drainage and water storage where possible.
• Everyone: Stay informed and help spread awareness. Climate change is real, and we must act together.
Let’s protect our people, our food and our future.
