Three weeks ago, I was out back-to-school shopping for my daughter, carefully inspecting backpacks and lunch bags to make sure I got the best ones.
Out of nowhere, the seller looked at my choices, turned to me, and asked: “Are you Igbo?” 😅
I laughed and said, “No, but why do you ask?”
What came out of her mouth next left me completely speechbound.
She smiled and said, “You really know how to take care of your children.” But she didn't stop there. She leaned in to tell me a story about her elder sister.
According to her, her sister always spent small fortunes on luxury school bags, designer outfits, and top-tier accessories for her young daughter. One day, a wealthy man noticed how exceptionally well-dressed the little girl was. Impressed by her family's taste, he literally "pinned" her on the spot for his young son. Fast forward years later... they actually got married. 💍💸
I just stood there listening, trying to process the logic behind what I was hearing! 😂
It blew my mind that someone could view a child’s elementary school bag as a long-term investment strategy for marriage.
It got me thinking about the wild expectations placed on little girls and the different reasons mothers style their kids the way they do.
Mothers of baby girls, I have to ask... 🗣️
Would you ever intentionally dress your daughter to position her for a wealthy family, or is this line of thinking going a bit too far?
