Amancio Ortega, the founder of Zara, actually began his journey as a tailor. At just 14, he started as an apprentice for a local tailor, learning the craft that would later shape his empire. With time, skill, and vision, he launched his own clothing business, which eventually grew into Inditex, the parent company of Zara.

Today, Ortega is the richest man in Spain and the founder of the Inditex fashion group, home to major brands like Zara and Bershka. As of May 2025, his net worth is estimated at $107 billion, making him the second richest person in Europe and the 16th wealthiest in the world.

Back in 2015, for a brief moment, he even became the richest man on Earth, surpassing Bill Gates, when Inditex’s stock surged and his net worth peaked at $80 billion.
