My fashion journey began when I was in SS2. It was towards December period when all mothers prepare their kids outfit for Christmas and new year. My mum gave me fabrics to take to our tailor. I collected the clothes, went to her shop and I refused to go back home.
I remembered the tailor telling me to go back home and I told her I wanted to learn how to sew. She laughed and said that is not how it's done. Your mum needs to register and come with some items.
I insisted I wanted to learn. She laughed again, left me on the seat and continued her work.
After some time my mum became worried and came to the shop because I suppose to have returned by then. Then the tailor explained what happened and while I refused to go back home. She encouraged my mom to register me since I have made up my mind and she said she will get back to her.
But trust Nigeria mothers, when we got home she told my dad and they said they wanted me to finish secondary school and go to university and so on. I told them am passionate about it. After so many back and forth we reached a conclusion which am to take a break once WACE approach and passed. I made the promise and I was registered.
After few weeks I started sewing because I love it and am intentional about it. My parents also make the journey smooth for me because they encouraged and provided the necessary materials.
When you are passionate about something, be intentional about it. Put in all your best. To parents, when your kids show interest in a particular thing lend them your hand. If they needs to be guided please be guided by the wisdom of God so that you don't lead them astray.
Am happy for the decision to pursue my fashion career and happy to have parents who supported and encouraged me.
