Week 3 Day 9

We had a topic on Market testing where we were taught on:
- How to Understand market needs
- How to Learn testing methods
-How to create a market testing plan

We learnt startup model- focusing on validating, building a minimum viable product- MVP
This is a proces where we will have to take our services or products out to get feedback from the client.

We had the core principles who are:
1. Build: learn- create small sample of products to the market and ask how much they are willing to pay for the product and get feedbacks from clients.

2. Measure: this is by measuring feedbacks we get from clients

3. Learrning: This is a stage where we have to work ok feedbacks we got to improve on products by adding missing features and other things.

We got to learn that with continuous experimentation and building prototype- these approaches will help us prevent wastage of products.

We looked into why we should test the market and the key steps for market testing.
We also looked into the tools we can use to run some of these market testing.

We finally looked into how to know profitable market, we had a practical on this where we had to put in the product, market test plan checklist (Audience, style preference, hypothesis, and type of testing methods)

It was a beautiful session with Mrs Julie Obi.

Week 3 Day 8

We had the practical session on Business Model Canvas which was taken by Mrs Julie Obi which was a physical class.

We learnt that It’s a short form of our business plan which will bring little information about what we do. It is a simplified version of one’s business.

We listed the 9 points that make up BMC which are:
- Key partners
- Key activities
- Values
- Customer Relationship
- Customer Segment
- Key resources
- Channels
- Cost Structure
- Revenue streams

We were then divided into 5 sectors- Agric, Health, fashion, Catering, Edutech to work on the BMC for what each business will be needing.

This class made me understand how to incorporate BMC into my business and get it ready for business opportunities.

A big thank you to Mrs Julie Obi.

And to our sponsors, thank you and our organizer

We had a practical session where we make use of a bag and we answered questions like:

- Why do I have a bag
- Essential things in the bag
- All listed things in the bag, are they everyday essentials
- We dive into creating a persona for products like who can buy it and why they need it.

We moved to discussing stages of products design
- Research and analysis
- Conceptualization
- Collaboration
- Prototyping
- Final Product

Then we were taught about Design thinking which is generating ideas and concepts for the Product based on the gathered insights.

We had a practical session where we had to create different types of bags based on different persona given to us. We did create beautiful bags from different groups based on the steps on product design and design thinking.

Okay, now I know the things to put together coming up with new designs I will be creating from my brand.

Week 2: Day 5

We had Mr Amaechi Kingsley, a senior hiring consultant who took us on Community Assets Mapping which was a physical class.

This is a way to identify the opportunities in our local community.

Then we dived into the brain stimulation game with the question ā€œ we are hired to come up with the new gadgets for 007- James bond. What are the new features we will have to include in the new gadget? We brainstormed in our various groups and came up with some ideas.

- Think of people that are potential customers in that area.

It was an extensive class with some brain stimulation games that helped us understand the concept of the topic. Thank you Mr Kingsley!

And to our sponsors thank you and our organizer

YSEC WEEK 2, DAY 3

We started off the second week with the topic on Communication where we looked at it in the context of selling to clients where we had to be sure of what our clients have- interest and their money. This class was taken by Adeola Iyanda.

As an entrepreneur we should understand clients experience. Some clients might not be interested in the experience but just the product.

And we should learn how to communicate with different types of people.

And as business owners we should have a target audience and tribe- we really buttress on it with an in-depth example that I will definitely incorporate in my business henceforth.

I learnt that if we are running a service based business we should understand what our clients want/need.

We were made to understand that In business it is essential to ask questions in detail for effective communication. In business there are some standards we are to set:
- SOP- Standard Operating Procedures
- Disclaner
- Constant notification of changes that might happen.

We dived into getting to understand different types of customers. We have:
- Aggressive customers
- Passive customers
- Active customers

The tune and reaction to attend to different customers are different and as an entrepreneur we need to master how to handle this 3 different types of customers.

We were given a tip on having a business lawyer to maintain professionalism and add structure to our business .

This session helped me unlearn, relearn and learn when it comes to communication. This was an opportunity to check and balance for me and for future clients so they can have the best experience when it comes to communicating with them.

And to be honest, this session has improved my communication skills and I’m glad for this priceless training!

Shout out to

YSEC WEEK 1, DAY 2- Setting and achieving Goals

This session was taken by Tinah Balewa
It was a virtual session and we started by giving the definition of goal setting.

I got to understand that a lot of factors come into play when talking about goal setting.

To achieve our goals we need to work on this:
- first work on our mindset and be realistic
- Set smaller goals that can be achieved easily.

We learnt about 3 different types of Goals which are- long, short and medium-term goals
And then we dive into the different types of Goals like- financial, social, economic, spiritual, fitness, relationship, business, community goals and likes.

Ultimately, we can set goals in any area of our life and definitely achieve them.

We then looked into how the goals we set are SMART which was breakdown into:
S- Specific
M- Measurable
A- Achievable
R- Realistic
T- Timely

We finally dive into how to achieve our SMART Goals
- Conduct Swot analysis
- Do personal development- transform your mind and - - - - improve your thought process
- Create a proper plan
- Struck balance
- Identify your limitations and tackle them.
- Have accountability partners.

The class on setting and achieving goals has helped me to understand how to set realistic goals and how to eventually achieve these goals while improving our mindset.

And then week 1 was a wrap.
Thank you

YSEC WEEK 1, DAY 1 - Employment and Entrepreneurship

So we had the first class on employment and entrepreneurship which was taking by Tinah Balewa- management consulting expert.
So she asked a question everything everybody needs to business and I’m not question that says can everybody do business so she gave us a difference between a business owner and an entrepreneur.

So we were being told that entrepreneurship primarily is all about growth first and not profit.
And for employment- its by staircase and entrepreneurship has twist and excitement in it.
We were given a task and I belong to team two, which is the employment route. Here is the breakdown of the task we are to do.
Pick a career, Determine growth potential, Determine how you as an employee grow your money (salary), Design budget for your salary monthly.
So we chose a product designer role and had the growth potential from the internship to entry to mid and to senior level alongside the number of month or year they spend in each level before scaling up to the next level alongside the ideal salary they get based on each level.

We then moved to a breakdown of what they spend their salary on and what budget they place on each spending and how they can come up with savings and investment and having to prepare ahead for inflation season that may arise in the future in whatever salary we get.

We also learnt from the other team what to put in place as an entrepreneur like- problem statement
Business model, Key partners, Key activities, Value proposition, Customer, Packaging, Diversification structure, Testing phase, Growth mindset, Working capital.

We dive into the route to economy and section of economy
Ultimately, we were made to understand how perception is everything…

Core competencies is an entrepreneur
Good communication, leadership, Good listener, Decision making, Disciplined vision oriented, Risk taker, confident and bold, innovative and creative, Ability to network.

In essence, entrepreneurship solves a problem and meets a need.

Thank you

It was a detailed class and I had a lot to learn!
Stay tuned for updates on other classes🄳

Today, I started a journey on improving my fashion brand business and scaling it up. I started an entrepreneurship challenge training in partnership with British council and king’s trust international and implemented by nerdzfactory which is a 7 weeks training in business and entrepreneurship courses.

The program will train and equip participants with the entrepreneurial skills needed to stay relevant in today’s world and make all the participants economically independent and sustainable. And to add the Cherry ontop, there will be grants for best businesses.

I am excited about this program because this has been what I wanted to help my business scale up and to the right entrepreneurship knowledge that I need to run a sustainable business in Nigeria and beyond.

The good thing is that this will be a training that I can incorporate into any other business I want to venture into later in the future.

What I will be learning from this program are listed below:
Technical Skills
Financial literacy
Business Game stimulation
Mentorship
Business pitch and lots more

Today was actually taster day, we were onboarded. During the program, we had a simulation game which is my favourite part of the taster day where we were grouped and given a task to work on a budget to break it down on how a family can spend their monthly income judiciously.

The lesson I learnt from that was that we should have it at the back of our minds that life can happen at any time and for the fluctuating economy we need to plan ahead, save more and spend wisely to be financially independent and secured.

In all, I met new people with different businesses and Business ideas.
So, join me on this journey of great learning. Is going to be a lot to learn!

And lastly, they were so thoughtful which shows they care about us. We were shared item 7! Tada!šŸ˜ŠšŸ’ƒšŸ¾favourite part thoughšŸ¤—

Thank you , , for this opportunity!
