🤱🏾The use of ni**le shields is a controversial topic in the field of lactation.
🤱🏾Its use has been an issue in clinical literature. This is because dome older studies discovered that ni**le shields reduced breast milk quantity the baby gets, while more recent studies reported successful breastfeeding outcomes.
🤱🏾Some babies become very familiar with the firm texture of the shield and find it difficult to transition back to the softness of the actual ni**le.
This is a major reason why the ni**le shield should be used temporarily.
🤱🏾More recently, ni**le shields have been used to protect sore ni***es from getting worse. This is because the suckling pressure from the baby is felt less when its used. And it allows the sore ni**le heal better.
