The fabrics for your clothing line determine how the garment will look and feel. It also affects other aspects of your clothing line such as: sizing availability, the comfort of the fabric, how the garment washes, the durability of the fabric. ⁣

Here are a 5 things to keep in mind when fabric sourcing in order to make the right decisions;⁣
⁣
1. Choose fabrics that suits your brands vision e.g Luxury fashion (Leather, cashmere, silk, organic cotton), Affordable fashion (Cotton, polyester, nylon), Afrocentric (Ankara, aso-oke etc)⁣
⁣
2. Determine the functionality of your clothing, a few things to keep in mind include the washability, stretch, durability, breathability, Color-stay, Easy-iron etc⁣

3. Go with an open mind when sourcing for fabrics. Finding a fabric that meets a balance between price, continuity and availability is the best way to determine suitability for your garments.⁣

4. Not all fabrics are available, all of the time. Some options are popular for many years, others come and go with trends. Checking the type of material and its availability is vital for continuity in your clothing line, especially when producing signature collections.⁣

5. Do your research, even if it means asking for samples or going to check the fabrics personally. ⁣
