From a piece of military dress to one of the world’s most recognizable symbols of sophistication, the necktie traveled from Croatia to Paris and eventually around the world.

🇵🇷GET TO KNOW: CASTILLO SAN FELIPE DEL MORRO

Standing at the entrance of San Juan Bay for centuries is one of the Caribbean’s most iconic landmarks: Castillo San Felipe del Morro, better known as El Morro. Construction began in 1539, and over the centuries this massive fortress became a guardian of San Juan and a gateway to the Spanish Empire.

El Morro faced attacks from some of history’s most powerful forces. In 1595, Sir Francis Drake attacked San Juan, but the fortress helped repel the English assault. The Dutch later laid siege to the city in 1625 and were unable to force El Morro to surrender.

Then came 1898. During the Spanish-American War, El Morro was struck by modern American naval artillery—a moment that symbolized a major turning point in Puerto Rico’s history and the end of Spain’s colonial presence in the Americas. Today, El Morro remains more than a fortress. It is a symbol of strength, resilience, history, and Puerto Rican identity.

GET TO KNOW: EDINBURGH CASTLE WITH THE ADORN BAG

Perched dramatically above Scotland’s capital on an ancient volcanic rock, Edinburgh Castle has witnessed some of the defining moments in Scottish history.

The castle has been a royal residence, military fortress, prison, and symbol of Scottish power for centuries. It has also been besieged more times than any other castle in Europe. One of its most remarkable moments came during the Wars of Scottish Independence.

In 1314, Thomas Randolph, nephew of Robert the Bruce, led a daring nighttime mission to reclaim Edinburgh Castle from English forces. Randolph and a small group of men climbed the steep and dangerous Castle Rock under the cover of darkness, surprised the English garrison, and successfully retook the fortress.
The victory became a powerful moment in Scotland’s fight for independence.

Edinburgh Castle is also connected to another moment that shaped British history: Mary, Queen of Scots gave birth to James VI there in 1566. He would later become James I of England, eventually uniting the crowns of Scotland and England.
