My father was not there when I was young. As a boy, I was angry. I couldn’t understand why. But now, as a man, I see things differently.

Nobody is perfect. I have forgiven him. Without him, I wouldn’t be alive. Even if the only thing he did was not pulling out or not using con-dom, it brought me here. For that, I honor him.

I should not still be here. At 45 years old, in my culture, as a divorced single mother, the odds were stacked against me. But I am still standing.

They try to box women. They say by a certain age you should stop dreaming. They call you legendary just to put you in the past. But I am proof that life is not over at 30, 40 or even 50.

Every year you wake up, you still have time to conquer. You still have time to shine. You still have time to live the dream you carry in your heart.

I want to be remembered as someone who conquered against all odds. And if I can, so can you.
