Shapewear dos = all the little rules that make it smooth, not suffocating. Especially in this Lagos heat, fit matters more than squeeze.
The DOS
1. Do size by your measurements, not your dress size
Measure waist + hips and use the brandβs chart. Snug but you can breathe and sit is right. Too tight creates bulges and even breathing/digestive issues. When between sizes, size up. οΏΌ
2. Do match the shapewear to the outfit
β’ Fitted dress / aso-ebi: seamless full bodysuit
β’ High-waisted trousers or skirt: high-waisted shorts that target midsection οΏΌ
β’ Light or white fabric: skin-tone, seamless, no lace edges
Visible lines ruin the look β seamless + skin-tone keeps it invisible οΏΌ
3. Do consider the occasion + climate
For formal events you want invisible, for gym you want breathable and moisture-wicking. In heat, look for lightweight, breathable fabrics β high-quality shapewear with moisture-wicking lasts longer and feels less tight. οΏΌ
4. Do wear it under the right clothes
It works best under form-fitting clothes. Under loose clothes it bunches and shows. οΏΌ
5. Do experiment with styles
Bodysuit, high-waisted shorts, camisole β different bodies need different compression zones. Try 2 styles before you commit. οΏΌ
The DONβTS
1. Donβt wear it too long
8 hours max. Longer can cause chafing, discomfort, and circulation issues. Definitely not to sleep. οΏΌ
2. Donβt go too tight OR too loose
Too tight = canβt breathe, rolls over the top. Too loose = bunches and does nothing. οΏΌ
3. Donβt let it show
Bra straps, waistband, or leg lines showing is the fastest giveaway. Check in natural light, bending and sitting.
4. Donβt wear it daily as a fix
Itβs shaping, not training. Give your body breaks.

Lagos-friendly shopping checklist when you buy:
β’ Fabric: nylon/spandex blend with cotton gusset, perforated / mesh panels
β’ Seamless edges + silicone grip so it doesnβt roll
β’ Medium compression for day (high compression gets too hot)
β’ Black + your exact n**e
