A POEM FOR MY COUNTRY
NIGERIA
my country, my freedom
my country, my right
my country, my language
my country, my identity
my country, my wealth
my country, my visibility
my country, my security
my country, my pride
my country, my army
my country, my giant
Nigeria, my freedom
Nigeria, my safehouse
my safehouse is held captive
my safehouse seeks freedom
my country my freedom
has lost its bullet and has stopped being my bullet proof
Freedom freedom I can't move
Freedom freedom where are you
I will keep running and seeking for my country's freedom
Verse ii
The most populous
country in Africa
The baby giant of Africa
A country of 178 million people
With about 500 ethnic languages by history
Nigeria; my country; my freedom
A country rich in terms of
human and natural resources
But today, my giant now
is leading with the largest poor
people in Africa
Where is Nigeria's freedom
My country is sick and has lost It's first aid
The armies are all asleep and drunk by strong drinks
The youth are all blind
The old are deaf to hear and pray
Freedom freedom I can't move
Freedom freedom where are you
I will keep running and seeking for my country's freedom
Verse iii
A country with over 50,000 talented people
Exploitation has taken over becoming the nations hero
Corruption is now the nations motto
Terrorism has taken over governance
Ethnicity violence is now the menu order of the day
Hiv/aids are now landlord of most real estate in my country
Ebola came trying to pledge it's vow which became invalid
Nigeria has lost its first aid
Nigeria cries for freedom
I will keep running and seeking for my country's freedom
verse iv
Green nigeria, green land
Green culture, green flag
Unemployment falls in this
green country as an heavy
steady rainfall in a dry season
Poor governance is now a
nickname to every regime
Political instability has now
become the foot wear of
most politicians and citizens
Unity has been forgotten by
Most green citizens as though dementia reigned as a plague
Oh Africa, oh Nigeria
Freedom is now what you seek
But you can make it
You are stronger than this
Remember winners don't
quit on themselves
You can deliver your people
You can gain unity
Remember winners don't
quit on themselves
How much more the giant of Africa
Freedom freedom I can't move
Freedom cut me loose
I pledge to Nigeria my country
To be faithful loyal and honest
To serve Nigeria with all my strength
To defend her unity
And uphold her honour and glory
So help me God
Freedom in Nigeria
Freedom cut me loose
.......Nigeria's last dying wish
