SSG Pledges Support for MAiN Project Office, Calls for Greater Visibility of Benue-Made Products

The Secretary to the Government of Benue State (SSG), Barr. (DCN) Aber Serumun Deborah, has pledged her support for the activities and objectives of the Made-in-Nigeria (MAiN) Project Office in Benue State.

The assurance was given when the MAiN Project Office paid an advocacy visit to formally brief her on the mandate, strategic objectives, and planned activities of the office.

Welcoming the team, the SSG commended the initiative and appreciated the work undertaken thus far towards establishing the office and positioning it to deliver on its mandate.

She observed that Benue State already boasts a wide range of locally produced goods and products with significant economic potential, noting that many of these products remain under-promoted despite their quality and market value.

Barr. Aber further decried the practice whereby products originating from Nigeria, including Benue State, are exported and subsequently branded differently, often denying local producers and communities the recognition and economic benefits associated with their products. According to her, this challenge may be linked to gaps in certification, standardization, and branding, which the office should seek to address through strategic partnerships and stakeholder engagement.

The SSG encouraged the team not to be discouraged by the challenges associated with building a new institution, noting that impactful initiatives often face initial difficulties before gaining momentum.

She assured the team of her support and urged them to remain focused on their vision of promoting Benue-made products, creating market opportunities, and contributing to the economic growth and development of the State.

Earlier, the MAiN Project Office briefed the SSG on its mandate to promote locally made products, encourage value addition, strengthen market access, and position Benue as a hub for enterprise, innovation, and economic transformation.

The meeting ended with a commitment to foster collaboration among relevant stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the office's mandate.
