Aspirants Who Stepped Down for Incumbent Will Be Rewarded — Gov. Bago

The Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has assured aspirants who stepped down for the incumbent member representing Bida/Gbako/Katcha Federal Constituency that they would not regret their decision.

The assurance came during a stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress held at the Government House, Minna, where Saidu Musa Abdullahi was adopted as the consensus candidate for the House of Representatives seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Governor Bago appealed to party stakeholders to support the incumbent lawmaker for another term, noting that the arrangement would allow the seat to rotate to Gbako and later Katcha in line with the understanding among stakeholders.

According to the governor, retaining the incumbent would enhance the constituency’s chances of attracting more democratic dividends and sustaining ongoing representation efforts.

He also disclosed that consultations were still ongoing to produce additional consensus candidates ahead of the party primaries scheduled to commence on May 16, 2026.

The aspirants who agreed to step down for the consensus arrangement include Isah Yahaya, Abubakar Baba Chegungi, Mohammed Yakubu Esheti, and Abdulsalam Madaki.

Some of the aspirants, while speaking with journalists after the meeting, said their decision was informed by respect for the governor, party stakeholders, and the need to promote unity and peace within the party. They also pledged their support for the success of the consensus candidate in the forthcoming elections.

Blessing CEO Remanded in EFCC Custody Over Alleged N36m Fraud

Popular social media influencer, Blessing CEO, has been remanded in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission following her arraignment before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos over an alleged N36 million fraud case.

During the court proceedings, counsel to the defendant informed the court that the influencer had refunded N24 million of the disputed amount. However, the EFCC maintained that the refund did not halt the criminal proceedings and urged the court to continue with the case.

Blessing CEO pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against her.

Federal Government Unveils CNG and Electric Mobility Initiative in Kano

The Federal Government has launched its Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Electric Vehicle (EV) programme in Kano State as part of efforts to reduce transportation costs and promote cleaner energy solutions across the country.

The initiative, implemented through the Presidential Initiative on CNG and Electric Vehicles (Pi-CNG & EV), was officially unveiled in Kano as the North-West zonal launch, marking a key step in Nigeria’s transition toward alternative energy in the transport sector.

Speaking at the event on behalf of the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, his Deputy Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Hassan Hadeja, said the shift to CNG and electric mobility is aimed at easing the economic burden of transportation and stimulating national productivity.

He noted that transport costs directly affect the prices of food, goods, and services, stressing that the programme goes beyond energy reform and represents a broader economic intervention designed to support sustainable national development.

Hadeja described Kano as a strategic choice for the launch, citing its position as a commercial hub linking Northern Nigeria with neighbouring countries. He also commended private sector investments in the gas sector, including Greenville LNG and NIPCO Gas, as well as large-scale CNG adoption efforts by industrial stakeholders.

In his remarks, Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, welcomed the initiative, describing it as a major boost to reducing transport costs and expanding economic opportunities within the state.

He said the state government has already partnered with investors to expand EV and CNG infrastructure, including the allocation of land for related facilities. According to him, the programme is also expected to create job opportunities for young people through training in vehicle conversion, maintenance, and transport services.

The Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on CNG, Barr. Ismaeel Ahmed, said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu mandated the project to reposition gas as a viable alternative fuel source and establish Kano as a major hub for the initiative in Northern Nigeria.

He added that within eight months, the programme has already established five CNG stations and two LNG facilities in Kano, alongside the deployment of 40 vehicles and 200 tricycles under the scheme. He further disclosed plans to introduce 5,000 additional vehicles and 200 heavy-duty trucks to the state in the next phase.

Barr. Ahmed also announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Lotus Bank to provide multi-billion-naira financial support for entrepreneurs, investors, and transport operators participating in the CNG value chain.

Nigeria Set for Digital Switchover Rollout June 17

Nigeria is set to commence the nationwide rollout of its long-awaited Digital Switch Over (DSO) project on June 17, marking a major milestone in the country’s broadcasting industry.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced the development during an inspection visit to NIGCOMSAT facilities in Abuja.

Speaking during the visit, the minister described the project as “a new dawn” for Nigeria’s broadcasting sector, expressing optimism over the readiness of the infrastructure for full implementation.

Also present during the inspection were the Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission, Charles Ebuebu, and the Managing Director of NIGCOMSAT, Jane Egerton-Idehen.

The Digital Switch Over project involves the migration of television broadcasting from analogue transmission to digital technology, a transition expected to improve television services across the country.

According to officials, the digital transition will provide clearer picture and sound quality, increased television channels, improved access to free-to-air services, and more efficient use of broadcasting spectrum.

The switchover is also expected to support integration with satellite and mobile platforms while creating new opportunities within Nigeria’s media and telecommunications sectors.

To access the digital service, households will require either a digital television with an inbuilt tuner or an analogue television connected to a set-top box or decoder.

Nigeria’s DSO initiative forms part of a global transition aimed at modernising broadcasting systems and improving service delivery through digital technology.
