SEWING TIPS EVERY TAILOR MUST KNOW.😎

1. Do not use razor to loose your seam but use a SEAM RIPPER or alternatively a hand needle. WHY? It’s safe and reliant. OPERATION RIP WHAT YOU SEW. (Check picture 1 to see the image of a seam ripper)

2. Any mistake made during sewing that is not corrected awaits you after sewing.
To avoid this, loose your seams until you get it right.

3. It is better to spend a day sewing 1 meaningful clothes than sewing 5 clothes wrongly. Slow down and enjoy the process. It’s not a race!

4. Do not sew when you are in a hurry. You might end up amending or sewing rubbish.

5. Press as you sew. Good pressing will make your sewing look so much better! Don’t wait until you’re done sewing before you use the iron.
Don’t be too lazy to stand up to use the iron while sewing.

6. Make sure the fabric you’ve chosen is suitable for the pattern or style you’re making.

7. Tailoring is not a talent it’s a skill. If you aren’t good enough SKILL-UP your skill.

8. Hand baste when necessary. It will save you time and save you from ripping stitches to re-sew.

9. Study clothings in stores and your closet to learn how it was constructed and to get ideas to improve your own sewing.

10. LEARN TO PRACTICE ANYTHING NEW YOU LEARN. PRACTICE!!!

I hope that these tips will help you improve.

TROUSER VARIATIONS YOU SHOULD KNOW

Trousers are a staple in every wardrobe, but did you know there are dozens of styles, each with unique fits and functions? Whether you're designing fashion pieces or styling your daily look, understanding trouser variations can elevate your game!

Here are some must-know trouser styles:

1. Straight-Leg Trousers
Classic and timeless. These run straight from hip to ankle, offering a clean silhouette suitable for both formal and casual settings.

2. Wide-Leg Trousers
Chic and breezy, wide-leg trousers flare out from the waist or hips, giving a relaxed yet stylish vibe. Perfect for flowy fabrics like crepe or linen.

3. Skinny & Slim-Fit Trousers
Form-fitting and sleek. Skinny trousers hug the body from waist to ankle, while slim-fits offer a more forgiving tapered look.

4. Tapered Trousers
Wider at the top and narrow at the ankle great for balancing proportions and adding a modern twist.

5. Flared & Bootcut Trousers
Bring back the retro! Flared trousers dramatically widen from the knees, while bootcuts offer a subtle flare for shoes or boots.

6. Pleated vs Flat-Front Trousers
Pleated styles give more room and a formal touch, while flat-fronts create a smooth, modern finish.

7. Joggers & Cargo Pants Sporty and functional joggers are perfect for comfort, and cargos add utility with multiple pockets and rugged design.

8. Palazzo & Culottes
Flowy, fashion-forward, and often misunderstood! Palazzos are long and wide, while culottes are cropped but just as wide.

9. High-Waist & Paperbag Waist Trousers
Great for defining the waistline and adding drama. Pair with fitted tops for a flattering silhouette.

Fashion Tip:
When selecting trousers, consider the fabric, fit, and purpose. A well-fitted trouser can transform your look from ordinary to iconic!

Things that Tailors Don't Like:❌🚫
πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

1. Loosening Stitches : Spending Time and energy to Sew dress, only to discover a Mistake, is not just painful, but Heart Breaking πŸ’”

2. Fixing Buttons with Hand :This is really Time Consuming and can be frustrating When the Customer is Waiting For You.

3. Bobbin running out Of Thread : Sewing and all of a Sudden, the Bobbin runs out of thread 🧡we just want the thread in the Bobbin to just keep Multiplying.

4. Needle Breaking: This one is both Heart Wrecking and Dangerous. You would be using the time and energy that was meant for sewing a dress πŸ‘— to change the broken Needle . Some times when needles breaks, they tend to almost fly into the persons eyes which is the dangerous aspect of it.

5. Working without Background music : This is one thing that every tailor likes, because it's eases the mental stress, and makes Sewing more enjoyable. I'm not saying that we can't see without background music, but sewing with background music is exceptional.

6. Nepa Wahala : Cutting A Dress, only for Nepa not to give light for gumming, Ironing and sewing.

7. Running out on Working Materials : Especially Now that Working Materials are now Very Expensive.

8. Amendment : Many Tailors Prefers sewing new dresses than amending old ones.

Alot of fashion Designers(especially new ones and those not exposed) get angry or feel sad or feel discouraged because they see other tailors charge more than what they charge

In turn they keep wondering what they do or know that they themselves don't do or know about

Some factors that may make them charge high

The quality of sewing tools or materials involved
They use cone/cup thread of 1,000 you are using thread of 100-200
They are using quality zip you are using low zip
They are using hemming gum of 6000 u are using the one of 400
They use quality interfaces while you use low grade ones
What about the machines, they are using industrial machine and you are using manual
They are using industrial iron and you are using charcoal box iron or condemn iron on a gas's burner
Take a look at the mannequin used in displaying and what about yours

Packaging matters too..u are using black nylon to put ur clothes, someone is using beautiful or customized bag

What about the shop rent and location..some shop rent are from the least 300k while you are paying 70k

They keep going for business upgrade classes while you are used to only climbing machine

They know marketing, business side of fashion, they know about customer target audience mean while you don't know them

They know how to use social media platform to attract value conscious customers while you don't wanna use it

They learnt from exposed bosses and madam while you learnt from a boss or madam who's not exposed

Do you think tailors like that won't charge higher than you.

Well, the good thing is that you can actually work on these things and upgrade and charge higher...

Keep pushing you'll get

Dear Tailors

βœ‚οΈNever go to the negotiation table hungry or sounding desperate and broke... You clients will use it against you.
I know their is hunger and its real, I know sometimes their is no work.. But its better not to get a that job that you'll later regret and sometimes get upset and maybe end up even spoiling the work.
From experience.. Job that you are not well paid, you do do it with anger and pains
But if you are well paid, you do it with joy, careful and more detailed.

βœ‚οΈNever Reduce your price(especially new tailors) because you want to attract clients.. Its a dead trap sometimes.. You may end up having price conscious customers at the long run and this may hinder your growth.

βœ‚οΈDo not be weak at heart or easily moved by what your customer may say.. Alot of tailors are emotional weak..
Example
Pj, no be just to use thread n machine run am, na simple style oh n e no go take your time oh. Sharp sharp e don finish
Pj sew am like this for me na, na me been support u when u just start oh.. Pj no worry, sew am for me I go bring plenty customer for u.
Pj, tailors plenty for my side wey dey sew am cheap, you be my guy nai make I carry am come oh so abeg sew am for low price.
Pj, you never sew free cloth for me oh, sew am for me make I use tell people say my guy na tailor.

Do not be easily moved by what they say

Hmmmmm.... Remember that when you fall sick emotions won't pay ur bills, mere talk wont pay your rent, mere talk won't pay your growth.

βœ‚οΈDo not think you can sew alone and expect growth in this tailoring work.Aside fron growth, you'll be stressed out, sick and collapse if care is not taken
Tailoring work us not a one man job
So learn how teach your apprentice or engage them as they'll be your back up tomorrow
Or employ at least one or two to work with you
I know some will say they enjoy working alone, but its a dead trap too.

May Almighty God keep helping us.

The best type of industrial sewing machine

Blackhead- if you are still young with plenty strength and still learning or starting out with no sponsor. There is poor power supply and no generator to power electric appliances constantly. You can install an electric motor on it for use when there is power supply.

Regular Industrial - you have saved up some money and have well paying customers. So you don't have to spend a lot of time making each outfit. You also have a stand-by medium generator or you live in an area where power supply is superb.

Direct drive- you have enough returning clients that pay well, have saved enough money to buy the machine and a small generator or you live in an area with constant power supply.

What all that means is that the best is dependent on your need the moment. They are all useful to different set of users at different times.

Do This When Your Sewing Machine Breaks Your HeartπŸ“Œ

Your sewing machine was working fine all through yesterday.

And when you woke up this morning, you already fantasized about all the customer jobs you're going to complete today.

You get to work excited and ready to work, then the unexpected happened.

Your sewing machine is not sewing well.
Rough stitches, funny sounds, and so on.

You're heartbroken. 🚫πŸ₯²πŸš«
"What happened ❓" You soliloquized.

That is strange, right?

But I want you to always know this:

πŸ“Œ "A sewing machine cannot just develop faults without a reason."

As difficult as it may be for you to believe, that is the TRUTH.

Something happened to your machine, and you're not aware of it.

Now, let me give you a First Aid Treatment Secret that you can use whenever this kind of thing happens.

πŸ“Œ Remove all the threads from the machine, both the upper and lower thread... everything.

πŸ“Œ Take out your sewing needle.

πŸ“Œ Take a piece of fabric and clean your sewing machine.

If it's a straight sewing machine, clean the bobbin area, in-between the tension discs, and the teeth area.

If it's an overlocking machine, clean all the areas where you have fabric waste and thread with brush, then clean in-between the tension discs as well.

πŸ“Œ Apply oil to your machine.

If it's an industrial sewing machine or industrial overlocker, you don't need to apply oil. Just ensure the oil tank has sufficient oil and the oil is not dirty.

πŸ“Œ Fix a new needle on your sewing machine.

πŸ“Œ Then pass all the threads properly again.

πŸ“Œ Now test it with a piece of fabric.

More than 70% of the time, your sewing machine will be back to normal.

This is a tested and trusted trick.

Save this for later and don't forget to share with your friends.

DON'T MISS THIS πŸ“Œ
This Is What I'll Check If My Sewing Machine Is Cutting Threads.

The fact that your machine is breaking thread is because of few things.

πŸ“Œ The thread you're using
No matter how good your sewing machine is, a bad thread will always give you issues.

πŸ“Œ The condition of your needle
If your sewing machine needle is rusted, bent, or blunt, there's a high chance that it'll break thread. This is why I often advice that you change your sewing needle regularly.

πŸ“Œ Correct positioning of the needle
If your machine needle is not fixed properly, it'll definitely break thread. Remember, on most straight sewing machines, the flat side of the needle always faces the right side...

πŸ“Œ Are you using the right needle size
There's the common size 18 thread for fashion designers...but when you're working with fabrics thicker than the normal, I recommend that you use bigger sizes like 20, 21 or 22. Remember, a thicker fabric requires a thicker needle.

πŸ“Œ Passing the thread properly
This is another thing you should check. If you do not thread your machine properly, the thread can be stuck in the wrong area, making it to cut.

πŸ“Œ The upper tension
After you have checked every other thing, this is the last thing to check. Many people don't know what the upper tension is. If you're one, check the pictures I attached to this post.

Your upper tension should not be too tight because that's where your thread passes through before getting to the needle. So, when your sewing machine is breaking thread, loosen the upper tension slightly.

Please note that, you might need to loosen the upper tension up to 2 or 3 times before it balances well.

Be calm when checking for any of those things I listed above.

Your machine cannot just cut thread without any of those reasons.

Lastly, I'll advise you to be very CALM.

Gra-gra does not solve your machine problems.

Did you learn something ❓

I'll advise that you SAVE this, for later.
You'll need it someday.

And don't forget to share with your friends.
