One of the most important parts of my job as a tailor happens before I even cut the fabric: it's the consultation.

this client sent me an inspiration style for her asoebi. we sat down to analyze every detail together. During our discussion, she mentioned that she didn't want a revealing neckline. She wanted something elegant, beautiful, and well covered.

We also talked about the faux wrapper detail. Instead of copying the exact style from the inspiration, I showed her different faux wrapper options and explained why creating a unique version is always the better choice.

here's something every client should know:

An inspiration picture is meant to inspire, not to be copied line for line.

every dress has elements that can be adjusted to suit your personality, comfort, body shape, and the occasion.
the neckline, sleeves, draping, wrapper style, embellishments, fit, and finishing all work together to create a design that feels truly yours.

when you copy a design exactly as someone else made it, you lose the opportunity to create something unique. but when you work with your designer to understand the details behind the style, you end up with an outfit that reflects you while still capturing the beauty of your inspiration.

Fashion is more than sewing. It's communication, understanding your client's needs, and transforming inspiration into a masterpiece with its own identity.

so before your next outfit is made, don't just send a picture. Have a conversation with your designer. Analyze the style together, understand what works for you, and allow room for creativity.

that's how timeless and unforgettable designs are created.

Fashion lesson of the day

there is a big difference between wearing a style and styling a style.

wearing a style simply means putting on an outfit.

styling a style is bringing that outfit to life.
It's knowing how to pair the right shoes, the right handbag, the right jewelry, and even carrying yourself with confidence.

take this simple boubou gown, for example.
many people would look at it and say,
"This is just something I'd wear to the market."

but my client saw beyond the dress.
she styled it beautifully with the right accessories, paired it with elegant shoes and a matching handbag, and transformed a simple boubou into a classy church outfit.
that's the power of styling.

Fashion is not always about buying expensive clothes.
Sometimes, it's about knowing how to make simple pieces look luxurious.
as a fashion designer, one of my greatest joys is creating outfits that are versatile: pieces you can dress up or dress down depending on the occasion.

the same gown can take you to the market, a brunch, church, or even a casual event.
It's not always the outfit that makes the difference.
Sometimes, it's the person wearing it and how they style it.
