BEING A 'KIND' TAILOR LEFT ME BROKE

I thought I was being helpful, but I was actually teaching my clients how to undervalue me.

2 MISTAKES THAT RUINED MY TAILORING BUSINESS YEARS AGO.

1. Pricing with Empathy Instead of Strategy:
I used to look at a client and decide their budget for them. I’d think, "They probably can’t afford my actual rate," so I’d discount my work before they even asked.

The Lesson: 👇👇👇
When you price based on your assumptions of a client's pocket, you aren't being kind, you’re devaluing your skill and suffocating your business.
Your price should reflect your expertise, overhead, and time, regardless of who is standing in front of you.

2. Operating on "Blind Trust" (The Credit Trap).
I used to be the tailor who bought the zippers, linings, and threads with my own money and finished the dress before receiving a dime.😩
The Result: 👇👇👇
I ended up with a shelf full of uncollected clothes and a long list of "I’ll pay you tomorrow" messages that never turned into cash.
The Lesson: A deposit isn't just about the money, it’s a commitment. If a client isn't willing to invest in the materials, they aren't invested in the service.

No deposit, no fabric cut.
No full payment, no dress leaves the shop.

MY JOURNEY TO FASHION

It all started with a needle, a thread, and a Primary 3 dream. 🧵✨

I still remember the day vividly. It was Home Economics practicals, and our task was simply to sew a skirt underwear.

While other kids saw it as just another assignment, I saw magic. When I finished, I couldn't believe my own eyes,I had created something wearable with nothing but my bare hands,a needle and thread.

From that day on, no fabric in our house was safe! 😂 If there was a scrap of cloth lying around, you could bet I was turning it into a skirt for my younger sister and I.

That spark never left me. While my peers were focused solely on JAMB and secondary school, I took a detour. I spent a whole year immersed in the world of tailoring before heading to university. Looking back, it was the best decision I ever made.

Fashion isn't just what I do; it's a part of who I’ve been since I was 7 years old. 👗❤️
