🌟 THE ENGLISH EXPLORER WITH ZION – SUMMER LITERACY CLASS 📚☀️

Today was another exciting learning day with our little explorers!

✍️ HANDWRITING PRACTICE

Our learners practiced writing letters and words neatly, correctly and with better control. We are gradually building the habits that make writing easier and more confident.

📖 VOCABULARY CORNER

We also explored new words from our reading:

✨ Dreams
✨ Hold fast
✨ Broken
✨ Winged
✨ Barren
✨ Field
✨ Frozen
✨ Snow

The goal is not just to introduce “big words” but to help children understand their meanings in simple, relatable ways.

Because every new word a child learns is another tool they can use to read, speak, write and express themselves. 💛

Learning should not stop when the class ends!

Today, our young learners at The English Explorer with Zion – Summer Literacy Class explored sentences, proper nouns, capital letters, full stops, and exclamation marks.

To help them move beyond memorizing definitions, I created this simple Home Fun activity where they have to apply what they learned by correcting sentences and using the appropriate punctuation marks. ✏️📚

For young learners, application is key. When children are given opportunities to identify mistakes, correct them, and create their own sentences, they begin to understand how language works, not just what the rules are.

That is the learning journey we are building at The English Explorer with Zion.

✍️ Handwriting is more than just making letters look beautiful.

It is about helping a child develop control, confidence, coordination, spacing, and consistency. One stroke at a time.

In this handwriting lesson, we’re not just writing A–Z. We’re warming up our fingers, practicing letter formation, learning letter families, and building the habits that make handwriting easier and more enjoyable. 🖐️✏️

As educators, sometimes the little things we practice repeatedly are the things that make the biggest difference. ❤️

📚 I’m sharing a glimpse of my handwriting lesson slides. I hope they inspire another teacher, parent, or tutor who is helping a young learner develop their writing skills.

A few weeks ago, the idea of hosting an online Summer Literacy Class felt exciting... and terrifying at the same time.

I kept asking myself:
What if no one registers?
What if the children don't enjoy the lessons?
What if I struggle with teaching online?

Despite all the doubts, I decided to begin.

The first class reminded me why I chose education. Seeing young learners smile, participate, read, write, and confidently attempt new words made every moment of preparation worthwhile.

Creating lesson slides, planning engaging activities, managing Google Meet, and communicating with parents stretched me beyond my comfort zone. It wasn't perfect, but every session has made me a better educator.

One lesson I've learned is this: growth rarely begins with confidence, it begins with courage.

I'm grateful to every parent who trusted me with their child's learning and to every learner who showed up ready to explore, read, write, and grow.

This Summer Literacy Class is more than a program to me. It is proof that when passion meets preparation, beautiful things happen.

Educator Spotlight: Meet the Mind Behind The English Explorer with Zion

Every meaningful journey begins with a simple decision to make a difference.

My name is Adeleke Mary Oluwabukola, fondly known as Zion, and I am an English Educator, Literacy Coach, and the founder of The English Explorer with Zion.

My passion is helping children become confident readers, writers, and communicators through engaging, interactive, and learner-centred literacy experiences.

Teaching has shown me that literacy is more than recognizing letters or reading words. It is about unlocking confidence, nurturing curiosity, and equipping children with skills that will serve them for life.

Through phonics, handwriting, reading comprehension, creative writing, and interactive literacy activities, I strive to create an environment where every child feels seen, encouraged, and capable of learning.

One of my greatest joys is watching a child move from "I can't" to "I can." Those moments remind me why I chose this path.

Beyond teaching, I am committed to partnering with parents, embracing continuous learning, and creating educational experiences that inspire children to reach their full potential.

As I continue growing The English Explorer with Zion, my mission remains clear:

To build confident readers and writers; one child at a time.
