It’s always helpful to read what other parents recommend, but it’s just as useful to hear which baby items turned out to be unnecessary.

Here’s one thing I wouldn’t buy again ➡️

Cute little bibs ❌

They may look adorable… but they’re often not practical and this is why ...

Most small bibs don’t provide enough coverage, meaning clothes still get dirty, a lot. And with babies spitting up or making a mess during feeding, you’ll end up changing outfits more often than you’d like…

Which also means ...
.. more laundry 🧺

What should you dress your baby in during warm weather? ☀️

This mainly depends on whether you have a newborn or an older baby… 👇🏼

➡️ Newborns can’t regulate their body temperature very well yet, even in warm weather. That’s why it’s often best to dress them in a long-sleeved bodysuit with long pants, even on warmer days.

➡️ Once your baby gets a bit older and can regulate their temperature better, you can dress them almost the same as yourself, but just add one extra layer.

👉🏼 For example:
Are you wearing shorts and a t-shirt? Your baby can wear the same, with a bodysuit underneath as an extra layer.

Still unsure what to dress your baby in during the day or at night? Here are some helpful guidelines 👇

Keep in mind: every baby is different. Some babies get warm more quickly than others, so always pay close attention to your baby’s needs. Check their temperature by feeling the neck, not the head. Is the neck warm or sweaty? Then your baby is too hot.

DAYTIME ☀️

Outdoor temperature:
• 20–21°C: Short-sleeved bodysuit + long pants + long-sleeved top
• 22–23°C: Short-sleeved bodysuit + shorts + short-sleeved top
• 24–25°C: Short-sleeved bodysuit + shorts
• 26–27°C: Short-sleeved bodysuit
• 27°C: Sleeveless bodysuit or a tank top

NIGHT 🌙

Bedroom temperature:
• 20–21°C: Short-sleeved bodysuit + long-sleeved pyjama top + long pyjama pants + lightweight sleeping bag
• 22–23°C: Long-sleeved pyjama top + long pyjama pants + lightweight sleeping bag
• 24–25°C: Short-sleeved bodysuit + lightweight sleeping bag
• 26–27°C: Short-sleeved or sleeveless bodysuit
• 27°C: Just a diaper

A baby walker ❌

It can actually delay your baby’s motor development…

Even though it may seem like a baby walker helps your baby learn to walk, it can actually slow down their development. The seat puts your baby in an unnatural position, increasing the chance of incorrect walking patterns.

But that’s not the only risk… 🚨

Your baby suddenly becomes much more mobile and can reach places they normally wouldn’t, like power outlets or a hot cup of tea.

Still want to support your baby in learning to walk? 👇🏼

Create a safe space where your baby can move around freely and practice walking along (wall secured) furniture or consider using a push walker instead.
