I am a collector.

For many years, I have collected Norwegian åkler — traditional woven textiles that have been part of our cultural heritage for generations. My mission is to make this tradition relevant again by bringing it into contemporary design and the products we create at Recouture.

We need to preserve these traditions, not by placing them in storage, but by making them attractive and meaningful to younger generations. That is my goal. Our way of designing is inspired by the craftsmanship, stories, and values of those who came before us.

This week at NeoCon in Chicago, one of these beautiful åkler was hanging on a wall.

I found it on Finn.no. A man was selling an åkle woven by his grandmother. She lived in Lunner, the same municipality where Recouture is based today and where I grew up.

I wish she could have seen her work displayed here, all these years later, on the other side of the world. But her grandson can.

And I hope he is proud of his grandmother.

Because her craftsmanship, her story, and her legacy continue to inspire new generations.
