Upper Body (swipe) modified to meet my needs 💪🏼
Two movements I’m choosing not to do in the gym right now- pressing overhead & pull ups (wide, overhand grip). I have a history of neck pain/tweaking with these two, so I’m choosing to modify with handstand variations & chin ups (close neutral grip).
Which leads me to a really important topic: staying in your own lane.
I could watch everyone else crush OH press & pull up PRs and feel like I’m missing out, or behind, or like I’m doing something wrong (getting out of my own lane). Or I can watch everyone else crush their PRs and remind myself that I’m making these smart decisions for me (staying in my own lane).
When I get out of my lane, I lose confidence in myself and my decisions. I don’t feel good.
When I stay in my own lane, I confidently move in the direction I’m choosing to go. I feel great.
This mindset is important when you have injuries. Your training might look different than everyone else’s right now. That’s okay- this is your lane and it’s about your recovery right now.
This mindset is important when creating a training schedule for yourself. You could look at me and think something like “She doesn’t have kids, so she has more gym time, and it’s easier for her.” Sure- maybe this is true. But is this thought/focus helping YOU? It’s not about me; it’s about you. Stay in your own lane.
This mindset is important when looking at the weight we lift. The weight we lift is always relative. Are you lifting for you (in your own lane) or are you lifting for someone else (other lanes)?
The happiest and best place to be is always in your own lane. Stay there 👑
Enjoy ❤️
