This year was my sister in law’s very first Mother’s Day and I really wanted to create something meaningful to celebrate her.
I spent way too long trying to decide what to gift her before realising that making something by hand would always mean the most. I’ve been playing around with the idea of personalised embroidered jumpers for a while now - I even made matching ones for Teddy and Riaan to grow up together in- but with last minute me, embroidery just wasn’t going to happen.
A couple of years ago Mr Bub & Bear bought me a Cricut for exactly these kinds of creative moments and while I have done the odd Bub & Bear merch project using it, this beautiful jumper is the most special that has come from it.
Every detail was chosen with love. Monarch butterflies symbolise the angels in our family, so including one felt important next to Baby Riaan's name - her heart on her sleeve.
Then came the jumpers for Teddy’s favourite grandmothers: Nani and Daddi (who Riaan also knows as Nani). For Nani, whose favourite little person is Teddy, we added Dev to her sleeve. For Daddi, both Teddy and Riaan were included alongside a rainbow symbol that is especially meaningful to her.
I always overthink gift giving and second guess whether I’ve chosen the right thing, but these felt different. Celebrating these beautiful mums and literally putting their love for our littlest bubs on their sleeve feels like the most special bear hug of all.
Bear Hugs, Shiv.
