We can't quite believe we are already half way through the year. We've had a bit of crazy few months, both beekeeping and family life.
As Autumn draws to an end we have done our best for the bees to help them prepare for winter. The hives have been condensed in size, the entrances have been reduced, honey stores and Queens checked.
Its been really nice working on the hives on these sunny Autumn days.
The bees are ready for their well-earned rest, we are too. 🍂🐝🍯

🐝It's swarm Season🐝So if you come across a swarm, give us a call 022 546 2723 and we can safely remove and re-home the bees- and as thanks, leave you with a Jar of lush local raw honey!🍯
We are also LPB Builders 🔨 so we can get the tricky swarms that decide to take up residence in the wall of your house or Shed😉

We all pulled a "Sickie" today. I'm at markets for most of my weekend, and he works Monday to Friday. Our Mahurangi coast hives needed a bit of attention, so we chucked the kids and the dog in the car and headed north to make a day of it! I'm pretty happy with how the Mahurangi bees are going. These hives always make us feel like we are good beekeepers. We definitely have some sites that make us feel like novices 😆
These sites produce most of our Pohutukawa honey, so with bees ready to go, fingers crossed 🤞the trees give them something to work with this year🌳

A chilly dip at the beach for the kids and some hot chips on the way home makes me feel like we should be doing this more often x

It’s been a while between posts — everything has been a bit full on!
We finally wrapped up our extraction in mid-April, much later than we’d hoped. 🐝
It’s been a long season this year. Balancing the kids, honey extraction and work (and everything in between) has been a real juggle. This seasons honey has been quite a contrast to last year. The colour is darker, the flavours are richer, and the real bonus of this years harvest is we have Rewarewa honey! And it is Delicious 😋

Now that the hives have been wintered down, we’re taking a breath and feeling grateful. For the honey and our bees, and for the support of our friends, family, and all our amazing customers both online and at the weekends Farmers Markets💛🍯
