Silver dress, silver Gullwing, doors up because why would I keep them closed. The 300SL debuted in 1954 as the first production car with fuel injection, and it was the fastest production car in the world at the time (those famous doors weren't a style choice, they were an engineering workaround for the car's tube-frame chassis). Sometimes the coolest details start as a technical problem.

Fur stole, hotel lights, and a Duesenberg because some cars call for the full Hollywood treatment. The Model J launched in 1928 with a straight-eight engine putting out around 265 horsepower, absurd for the era, and it was the ride of choice for actual movie stars. By the 1920s and '30s people were calling them "duesies," slang that stuck around long after the company folded in 1937.

Countryside, a swing skirt, and the Model B, the budget sibling nobody talks about. Same '32 body as the famous Deuce, but this one ran a four-cylinder instead of the flathead V8, and it showed: Ford marketed the V8 as "vibrationless" that same year, while the four-cylinder carried over the rougher-running engine from the old Model A. It made the Model B the more affordable option at launch (and, ironically, the rarer survivor now, since most got junked or V8-swapped by hot rodders). I think it deserves its flowers.

Denim, a bandana, and a '32 Deuce Coupe because some cars just demand you get your hands dirty. This one earned its nickname the honest way ("Deuce" for '32) and it was the first Ford to come with the flathead V8, which is basically the reason hot rod culture exists at all. Every custom build you've ever seen owes this car a thank you card.

Pink dress, pink Cadillac, dusk light doing all the work. The Biarritz was the convertible trim of the Eldorado, and in '56 it was basically Cadillac showing off, dual four-barrel carburetors, those fins getting more dramatic every model year. It was one of the priciest American cars money could buy at the time, so I like to think I'm dressed for the price tag.

Red dress, black Impala, zero regrets. 1961 was the year Chevy dropped the SS badge on the Impala for the first time, and the 409 V8 debuted alongside it as a rare option (just 142 of that year's SS cars got one). Poolside in Palm Springs, matching my dress to a Thunderbird because subtlety was never really my thing. Ford launched this one in 1955 with a removable fiberglass hardtop as standard (a folding soft top was optional too), aimed straight at Corvette buyers who wanted comfort with their speed. The circular "porthole" window everyone associates with the car didn't show up until 1956, added to fix rear visibility complaints.

Cliffside, golden hour, and a car that's basically wearing jewelry instead of trim. The '57 Bel Air is the one everyone pictures when they hear "classic American car", that chrome "V" hood ornament, the tri-five body style in its final and best year before Chevy redesigned the whole lineup. Some things really do peak right before they change.

427 cubic inches of "please don't talk to me while I'm doing math." Carroll Shelby built this car specifically to embarrass Ferrari on track, and it worked more often than not. Zero to sixty in around 4.5 seconds, which in 1965 was borderline illegal in several ways. Took it up to the overlook because a car this loud deserves a view this big.

The Camaro almost didn't happen fast enough. Ford's Mustang had a three year head start and GM scrambled to catch up, but the first-gen '67 showed up swinging with a design that still turns heads sixty years later. Red dress, red Camaro, zero coincidences.
