I grew up in an era where we were a little more carefree.
And it was never really about the lollies.
It was riding your bike to the shop and calling into every house along the way. You knew who was home because their bikes were lying on the front lawn β and before you knew it, there was a whole group of you riding together.
We knew almost everyone in our neighbourhood.
We played touch on the street, collected and traded marbles, rode our bikes up and down the road until the street lights came on and we knew it was time to head home.
Dinner was on the table. There weren't five different options. We sat down, ate what was made, and ate together as a family.
We knew the entire Fresh Prince rap by heart.
Saturday mornings were for getting up early, grabbing a bowl of cereal and watching our favourite cartoons.
We knocked on doors instead of sending messages.
We made plans without phones.
We got bored β and somehow always found something to do.
Our pockets held marbles, random treasures and, if we were lucky, a 50c lolly mixture from the dairy.
I think that's the part I miss most.
Not necessarily the things we had, but the way childhood felt.
Simple. Free. A little wild.
This collection β and this little film β is my love letter to that kind of childhood. π€
A little piece of the 90s, brought back for our kids.
