With a mix of gratitude and sadness, we want to share some news with you. After much consideration, we've decided to close our physical shop. With the closure of several local businesses in the past few months, we also wanted to stress that this decision has been based on personal reasons and has nothing to do with a lack of support from the New Brighton community. Your support has been the heartbeat of our business, and we are truly grateful for every moment we've shared with you.

The Pier People brand will not disappear, we will be working on our website and will continue to sell products online once the physical shop is closed. The exact timeline for this shift is uncertain, but we anticipate completing the process within the next two months. Your patience and understanding during this period means the world to us

Effective immediately, our shop hours will become sporadic as we navigate this transition and we will no longer be taking any custom orders. Stay tuned for updates, promotions, and a continued celebration of the community we've built together.

Massive thanks to the local community for giving us such a busy week for our first week back! We just wanted to let you know, we will be closed tomorrow, Saturday the 20th, and back on Tuesday.

Just like that, we are back to work! We hope everyone had an amazing holiday break, it was awesome to see how busy and popular New Brighton was over the holiday period. Fingers crossed it stays busy for the rest of summer.

We will be making several changes to Pier People in 2024, beginning with a change in our opening hours. At the end of last year, we gained some new family responsibilities, and as a family owned and operated business, it affects the whole team.

We will still be open Tuesdays - Saturday but our new hours will be 10am - 4pm.

We look forward to seeing you in-store!

It looks like smoking is going to be around a little bit longer, which also means the wrong kind of butts on our beach. To help keep our beach beautiful this summer, we've bought a bunch of canisters and up-cycled them into pocket ashtrays. If you're a smoker heading to the beach, simply put it in your pocket, throw your butts in and empty it into the rubbish when you get home.

Come pick one up in-store, we are giving these away, a gold coin koha to help cover the cost is appreciated but not necessary.

Halloween has become quite the tradition for our whānau, with our history of goofy matching costumes and some years, over 200 trick or treaters coming to enjoy our decorations and treats.

Halloween falls on a work day for us this year, but we couldn't bear to let the neighborhood kids down, so next Tuesday we will be closing at 3pm to ensure we can get home to decorate, get dressed up, and keep the tradition going strong!

We often get people in store asking if we can fix up their old photos, and we always send them down to Frame n Copy - design, print & picture framing. Not only another great New Brighton business, but one that's been servicing our community for years!

We believe in sourcing everything in our store as locally as possible. So we absolutely love doing work for other local businesses who feel the same way! After printing some new uniforms for Switch New Brighton today, we dropped them off and picked up the best bagels in New Brighton for lunch at the same time

We appreciate you guys and your time especially at last minute with a small window to work with. Designs came out great and we couldn’t be more happier.

We are finally testing negative! We are giving ourselves the weekend to recover and build our energy levels back up and will be opening our usual business hours from Tuesday

So far April has been an incredibly challenging month with back to back illnesses and it's been really disappointing for us to have had to close the shop these past two weeks. However your patience and support for our well-being over this period has been much appreciated by our small family-run business.

Unfortunately this Easter brought the team Covid. This means we will need to stay closed a little bit longer and are hoping to be well enough to return on Thursday. Keep an eye on this page for any updates.
