The Amsler Grid is a simple at-home tool used to monitor changes in your central vision, which can be affected by conditions such as macular degeneration and epiretinal membrane.
To carry out the Amsler Grid test at home:
- Hold the grid about 30cm from your face while wearing your reading glasses.
- Cover your left eye and focus on the central dot with your right eye.
- Keep your gaze fixed on the dot—don’t look away.
- Repeat with your left eye.
If any lines appear wavy, distorted, blurred, or missing, contact your optometrist or eye specialist promptly, as this may indicate changes in the macula.
At Gates by Paterson Burn, we use advanced imaging such as OCT to detect early changes at the macula and support ongoing care. If you've noticed any changes in your vision, book in for an eye test with us today https://www.opticalbookings.co.nz/paterson-burn-optometrists-gates/store
