Dressing modestly
So what exactly does dressing modestly mean? Modesty is the heart of Islam and is the main key value of Muslims. Women, as well as mean need to be fully covered, in non-revealing clothing. Women need to be covered from the head down to the ankles, in flowy and non-revealing clothes, with some exceptions.

In Islam dressing modesty is meant to prevent abuse against women, because it averts men to reform themselves first. God instructed the men, “To lower their gaze from looking at women with desire other than their wives, and to protect themselves”.

Burqa: This is a full veil traditionally worn in Afghanistan and parts of other middle eastern countries. The burqa covers the head and the body and has another piece of fabric to hide the eyes.

Niqab: This is a veil that completely covers a person, including the mouth and the nose. There is a small opening for the eyes.

Hijab: This is a headscarf. The hijab hides the hair, ears and neck of a women. Only the shape of the face is visible, including the eyes, mouth and nose. The hijab is more commonly used, compared to the Burqa & Niqab.

The hijab is worn more frequently around the world, and can be styled in ‘various ways’ to express one’s self. There are many different colours, styles, fabric style to suit everyone. Many Muslim women choose to wear the hijab and are not at all forced.
