Off to a great start this Wednesday!

I've already survived a spin class with only minimal thoughts of dying 😅 and managed to drop this basket of toys off to Nelson Tasman Hospice on the way home. They'll be able to use them in their fundraising efforts, which is always lovely to support.

It feels good to have both a workout and a good deed ticked off before lunchtime

The weather isn't exactly inspiring today, but I'm hoping I can resist curling up in front of the fire long enough to mend a pair of pants and perhaps make a start on some more ponies.

We'll see how much motivation wins over the cosy factor! 🪡🔥🤷‍♀️

The Dementia Auctions are more than just a fundraiser for me — they're personal.

As many of you know, Mum lives with dementia. It's a journey that none of us expected to be on, and if you've walked this road with someone you love, you'll know that dementia is far more than simply "forgetting things."

It's watching memories fade, conversations change, and sometimes seeing glimpses of the person you've always known mixed in with moments that can be heartbreaking. It's learning to treasure the good days, laugh when you can, adapt when you must, and somehow become an expert in things you never wanted to know about.

There are days when dementia feels incredibly unfair. Actually, most days.

But if there's one thing Mum has taught me, it's that even when life throws challenges at you, you keep going. You find ways to make a difference where you can.

That's why the Dementia Auctions mean so much to me.

Every item donated, every bid placed, every post shared helps support organisations that provide vital services, resources, advocacy, and support for people living with dementia and the families who love them. Those services matter. The support matters. The awareness matters.

What started as a way to give back has become something much bigger. It's become a community of people coming together to help others who are facing similar journeys.

And while Mum may not always remember every detail these days, I like to think she'd be pretty proud of what we're building together.

So from our family to all of you — thank you. Thank you for supporting the auctions, for sharing the posts, for donating, bidding, encouraging, and helping us turn something that can feel so difficult into something positive.

Together, we're raising more than funds. We're raising awareness, creating conversations, and supporting families who need to know they're not alone.

Busy life admin day today!

I've already ticked off making sushi balls for the kids' lunches and made it to spin class this morning. 💪

Next on the list is organising a box of donations for Nelson Tasman Hospice before one child finishes school early. Then it's parent-teacher interviews this afternoon, followed by rugby photos for another child.

Definitely one of those busy, busy days, but it's always satisfying when you can keep ticking things off the list! 😊

There’s been quite a bit of interest after this morning’s pony post, which is fabulous! 🦄

I thought I’d make another post to let you all know that the original crew (or very close to the original crew!) are all available to order. These are the ponies I grew up with and absolutely adored!

I’ve actually made most of them before, although Twilight Sparkle is still on my "to make" list!

I already have an order in for another Pinkie Pie, so depending on my motivation levels, I might just have to make the whole gang... because I really, really want a group photo of them all together! 😅

Ponies are $70 each plus courier.

As always, old-school layby is available. 💜The thought of a full group shot is definitely enough motivation to make the whole set! 😆🦄

I've just finished this custom Pinkie Pie My Little Pony order, and gosh, does it bring back the nostalgia! I absolutely loved My Little Pony when I was growing up 🤩

This special pony is heading off to a little girl for her birthday in September, and I hope she is treasured and loved for many years to come. 💖

It was also really lovely to work on a project like this. With my embroidery supplies being practically non-existent at the moment, it felt good to get back to some grassroots sewing. While I enjoy the relative quickness of embroidered in-the-hoop projects, there's something so satisfying about slowly piecing a creation together and watching it come to life stitch by stitch.

Sometimes the slower process is just as rewarding as the finished result. 🦄✨

The lovely Magic in Yarn has kindly shared a couple of my posts and creations, and I just wanted to give her a huge shout-out and heartfelt thank you! ❤️

It means so much when fellow creators support one another and help lift each other up. Small acts of kindness like this make such a difference.

Wow, what a full-on Saturday! I've only just stopped moving long enough to sit down.

The day started with a gym session for a strong start, followed by rugby and lunch at the club. This afternoon was spent out in the garden with the help of some wonderful friends, and we managed to get so much done.

It's been a busy day, but a productive one, and I'm definitely looking forward to crawling into bed tonight!

It's been pointed out to me recently that the Dementia Auctions aren't really just about dementia anymore.

The reason they're called the Dementia Auctions is because that very first auction—what feels like a lifetime ago now—was created to help cover Mum's care costs after Dad's heart event turned our world upside down. What started as a small fundraiser quickly became something much bigger than I ever imagined.

Over the years, the auctions have continued to grow, and that's entirely thanks to the incredible support of this community. We began by supporting Alzheimers New Zealand, and a few years ago we expanded to include Hospice as well. Since then, the funds raised have been shared between both organisations.

Which brings me to a question I've been thinking about for a while now: does the name "Dementia Auctions" still fit?

I've always been transparent about where the money goes, but as the event has evolved, perhaps the name should too. It's something that was recently raised by a friend, and it got me wondering what everyone else thinks.

I've also thought about the future of the auctions in other ways. Should we continue holding them every year, or would it make more sense to make them a biennial event? There's an enormous amount of work, time, and stress that goes on behind the scenes to bring these auctions to life, and while they're incredibly rewarding, they are also a huge undertaking.

And what about the charities we support? Is there another local cause you feel deserves consideration in the future? Not necessarily this year, but perhaps in years to come.

I'd genuinely love to hear your thoughts. These auctions have become just as much yours as they are mine. They've grown into a wonderful community event where people can pick up some amazing bargains—especially with Christmas not too far away—while supporting causes that make a real difference in people's lives.

No matter what direction they take in the future, these auctions will always hold a very special place in my heart because of why they began.
