Since it’s officially September, we’re getting SO much closer to auction time! 🥹❤️

I just want to take a moment to acknowledge everyone who has contributed to these auctions in any way — whether through donating items, sharing posts, liking, commenting, interacting, or simply helping spread the word.

Every bit of support makes a difference, and these auctions truly wouldn’t be what they are without you. Your generosity and support are a huge part of why they’ve been as successful as they have been, and I’m incredibly grateful for every single person who has played a part.

We’ve received this absolutely gorgeous handmade cheeseboard for the auction, kindly donated by one of my dad’s friends ❤️

This beauty has been handcrafted by Guy Thomas from Against the Grain, and it really is something special. Made from beautiful applewood, the natural grain and colouring are just stunning — every piece has its own unique character.

It’s the perfect addition to a cheeseboard spread, serving up your favourite cheeses, crackers and all the delicious extras. 🧀🍇

I’ve decided the reason this has taken me 11 years so far is probably because, deep down, I don’t actually want to finish it.

I mean, I do… eventually. But this is the last piece of work Mum’s hands ever touched.

Every time I pick it up, I feel close to her. It brings back those memories of sitting and stitching alongside her, chatting, sharing the little moments that I didn’t realise at the time would one day mean so much.

And maybe that’s why I keep putting it aside.

Because once it’s finished, there won’t be any more stitches to add. No more reason to pick it up and feel that little connection to her.

So for now, it can take another 11 years if it needs to.

I’m not ready to let this one go just yet. ❤️

Life feels a little heavy right now.

This time of year has always been a bit harder to carry. My birthday is in September, and while I miss Mum every single day, somehow I miss her even more around this time.

Your mum is supposed to be the person who is always there. The person you go to when life feels too heavy, when you have a problem you don’t know how to fix, or when you just need someone to listen.

Mum could fix almost anything with a hug, a listening ear, and maybe the occasional bit of advice. She didn’t need to have all the answers. Somehow, just having her there made things feel a little less impossible.

And now… she’s still here, but dementia has taken so much of her away.

Dementia fu***ng sucks. For the person living with it, and for everyone who loves them. It changes everything, while somehow leaving you standing there missing someone who is still sitting right in front of you.

I know there will be better days, but today is just one of those days.

I’d give absolutely anything to go back to this. Back to when Mum was Mum. Back to when I could hear her voice, hear her laugh, have a silly selfie, get one of those hugs, and not have to wonder if she knows who I am.

I’d give anything for just one more ordinary day.

Got a little sidetracked by the kitchen today 😂
And.. its still blowing a gale out there!!

Vanilla cupcakes, egg salad and kumara salad are all sorted, so lunches are looking pretty good for a while!

BUT… I did manage to sneak in a little work and turned out some pads and bibs. May work some more on mums cross stitch later tonight

Calling that a win! 🙌✨

Well, it’s another manic Monday!

Gym done ✔️
Coffee done ✔️
Dog walk done ✔️
And somehow I didn’t get blown away! 😂 Although it was definitely a near thing!

Seriously, check out this wind! 🌬️ It’s absolutely crazy and has been hanging around for a few days now. At home, it sounds like we’re living at the beach — just without the nice sandy part.

Out walking, it sounded like I was going to be taken out at any given moment… so that was fun! But hey, I survived, the dogs survived, and nobody ended up on the other side of the forest so I guess its a win- probably wouldnt recommend though -health and safety and all that 🙃

As for sewing today… who knows! 🤷‍♀️ I should probably be in the studio, but there always seems to be about 47 other things that suddenly need doing first.

Ahhh, the joys of working from home… where apparently being at work means noticing everything else that needs doing. 🙄😂

Anyway, coffee #3 may be required before I make any serious decisions about the day! ☕️
