Remember that time we got in trouble with the Commerce Commission?

Yeah. Definitely not our finest moment.

Turns out kids’ Towelies are considered nightwear under NZ safety standards… which we did not know.

We’re actually still in the process with the Commerce Commission and don’t have an outcome yet BUTTTTTT…

WE HAVE THE GO-AHEAD TO SELL KIDS’ TOWELIES AGAIN 🎉🎉🎉

The correct fire labels have been stitched in ✔️
The correct fire safety information is now on the website ✔️
We’ve just got a few more labels to sew in and then WE ARE READY, FRIENDS.

We haven’t been able to sell these since March and holy s**t, you guys have been asking for them 😂

We’re after a bubbly, empathetic, 10/10 female (has to be female soz…. They’ll be many b***s) to capture (VIDEO) our topless swim (all profits donated to Breast Cancer Foundation NZ)

What happens:

We all meet at Okere Falls Store, have breakfast *and cocktails*, then jump on the Pure Cruise boats and head over to Lake Rotoiti Hot Pools.

One the way we’re getting amped for the swim. (Last year abba helped 😂). Maybe some more liquid courage and then before we’ve even docked - the ladies were topless and lining up ready to jump off the pier into the balmy *16 degree lake.

Followed by hot pools, snacks, YARNS, hugs, tears. More hugs, tears, snacks, swims…slides (yeeee there’s a slide)

The vibes are high and new friendships are made. Barriers are broken through and it’s an INCREDIBLE day.

We want to capture that. The stories behind the ladies. So we can continue sharing the message about the importance of checking your b***s. Self checks, mammograms. Yarns! Noticing changes etc.

We want to capture the stories of ladies who’ve survived.
Ladies who’ve lost loved ones to BC.
Ladies who’ve met new friends who “look like them”.

You must be empathic, compassionate, fun! And female.

We want epic videos and some images. Drone footage (from behind) wouldn’t go amiss.

My heart is so full. This has been one of my favourite collabs yet.

I’ve always been a believer in “do business in places that have delicious food and you want to visit”.
But this wasn’t a holiday. Gaz and I went for one very specific reason: Towelies.

My most commonly asked question in the last 2 years has been “when are winter Towelies coming back?”.
You wanted them thicker. Warmer. Cosier. Better for winter swimming, surfing, diving, wakeboarding, hot tubs… all the cold-weather stuff where our lightweight Turkish cotton Towelies aren’t necessarily what you reach for.

The problem was, our old thick Turkish terry Towelies had become insanely expensive to make. And not just a little bit.
To make them work in Türkiye, we were having to make tens of thousands at a time. The cost kept climbing and climbing and we’d have had to keep putting the retail price up.

And at the end of the day… it’s a towel.

I love our products and I believe in paying properly for good manufacturing, but there comes a point where you go, this just doesn’t make sense anymore.

So a few years ago we started quietly sampling from India.

We’ve actually had Indian towel samples floating around our house for the last 2–3 years.

Gaz and I have worn them through multiple winters. They’ve been washed over and over. Taken camping. Used after swims. Taken to hot tubs. Generally given a decent hiding.

And they’re bloody lovely.

So after you guys overwhelmingly told us you wanted the winter Towelies back and my personal life was a bit less of a s**tshow… it was time to go to India!

We’d already met the people behind the factories. Gopu, who we’ve been dealing with, had actually lived in Auckland for 17 years and Melbourne for another five, which somehow made the whole world feel very small.

But here’s what makes us different…

Anyone can send you a certificate.
Anyone can say a factory is ethical.
Anyone can show you nice photos.

I wanna see all of that with my own eyes!
So Gaz and I got on a plane and went to India.

We travelled out to the cotton terry manufacturing area and spent days visiting factories, weaving facilities, dye houses and production sites.

We met the people.
We saw the looms.
We watched how the towels were made.
We saw where the fabric was dyed.
We saw the working conditions with our own eyes.
And that, for me, was the entire point of the trip.

These new warmest Towelies won’t replace our Turkish cotton range.

Everything else is still being made by our incredible makers in Türkiye, who we’ve worked with for years and absolutely adore.

This is just another option.

A proper winter Towelie.

Thicker.

Warmer.

Ridiculously cosy.

And yes… because they’re thicker, they also take longer to dry.

Physics, mates 😂

We’re still working through all the final details, but going to India made me feel so much more comfortable about what we’re building.

STOKEDNZ has grown a lot since I started selling towels at markets.

But I never want us to become a brand that just orders products off a catalog from people we’ve never met.

If we’re going to make something, I want to know who made it and are they happy?

And we can honestly say yes!

We’re home from India and still trying to decompress / process it all.
Gary and I have spent the past week in India visiting factories. We had met the people behind the factories but we wanted to see the factories with our own eyes.

I really don’t think many brands or people do this. I think it is a big part of what makes us different. And I’m so bloody glad we came. Because it was MIND BLOWING.

We’ve mentioned it across social media and in our emails (but with the algorithm stuff gets missed) so just to catch you up - no we’re not leaving our Turkish manufacturers. We’ve worked with them for almost 9 years and we LOVE them. Going to India did feel a bit like cheating on them 🤣

But we went because Türkiye make Turkish towels. They don’t typically make or use thick, Terry towels - like we use here in NZ or in the Western world.
And as a result they’re spendy to make and we’ve got to make tens of thousands at a time.

So India - wow. Mind blowing. I don’t even know if I have words yet. It was actually f**cking insane 🤣

The traffic, the colours, the people, the rubbish 😭, the horns, the elephants *we saw some in the wild*. It was A LOT.

And we had really successful factory visits. Welllll except for the one time one of the Indian men said “you’ve gotten way fatter since I saw you in 2023”… I really wished the ground would swallow me up. And I nearly cried.. but that’s different cultures for you 🤣
And I think that’s the gold in travelling the world. And how cool to do business in multiple places.

Oh and Gaz ended up in hospital - not great at all.
It was snowing at our mini farm in Rotorua before we left… then we landed in 38-42 degree heat. And funnily enough our favourite Irishman didn’t *thrive* in the heat.

Anyway I can not thank The doctors enough. We were in the emergency room and him in a bed with a team of doctors within 5 minutes.

It was the heat and maybe the 14 hour days 🤣🤦‍♀️.
So much travel (a 95km trip took 4.5 hours one day), so many factories… so much overwhelm.

I’ll try make sense of it all and post up over the next few days.
But it was EPIC

We’re making samples.
We’re so bloody stoked and privileged to have visited AND couldn’t be happier to be back on our mini farm. To hug our goats, cats and Beefies 🤣
