Mary thought Jesus was the gardener. She wasn’t wrong.
Most people read right past that moment in John 20 — but that one word, gardener, unlocks the entire resurrection story.
The first human in Scripture was a gardener too. His name was Adam. And in a garden, he chose himself over God and brought a curse on all of us.
Then, on a Sunday morning outside Jerusalem, history repeated — but with a completely different ending.
Same elements: a man, a woman, a garden.
Different result: not a fall, but a restoration.
Where Adam hid, Jesus came looking.
Where Adam failed, Jesus finished it.
“It is finished.” Not almost. Not mostly. Finished.
And when Mary turned around and saw the risen Jesus — she didn’t recognize Him at first. She thought He was the gardener.
