Hoodscarf Infinity scarves with hoods. Made from 100% merino, handmade in New Zealand. Shop Hoodscarf https://hoodscarf.nz/ My Mum taught me to sew (thanks Mum).

Hello, I'm Robyn, owner and creator of Hoodscarf. I've been interested in sewing and making since I was a kid. I still use the pin cushion she helped me make, one of my first projects. I studied Fashion Design at University, and had the privilege of working at one of the last remaining textile manufacturers in New Zealand. While there I soaked up as much knowledge as I could, in particular around

merino. For me merino is the best because it's super warm, while being light weight. I feel the cold, and layer up merino during the Winter months (and some of Autumn, and Spring to be honest). You will find a merino scarf all but surgically attached to my neck for a good portion of the year. I've been making my own loop (infinity) scarves for yonks, and one day started playing around with adding a hood. I made several mock ups, adjusting the pattern as I went, until I was happy with the result. And so Hoodscarf was created. I love colour, and print, and anything quirky makes me smile. When I'm not sewing I'm busy being a Mum of two boys, a supportive partner, and working on growing our fruit and vegetable garden. We live in a beautiful part of New Zealand, close to sea and bush, which we visit often.

These were a long time in the making.

They're a passion project using bits and pieces of left over Merino fabric. Pieces that were too small or not quite the right shape to cut a full headband or pair of fingerless gloves.

If you've been here a while you'll know that I like to keep fabric scraps. I have a couple of big containers worth at this point!

These scarves are something I've been chipping at way at for a while in between other things. It's quite the process piecing it all together.

It's been super fun. I love playing around with colour. I thiiiiink my favourite is the ochre with pink.

It's new, it's unusual, it's different (for me).

I'm super thrilled to be stocking with a new retailer, the beautiful Blackbird Grove in Rangiora.

Just for them, I've designed a capsule collection of mix and match Merino Hoodscarves, Fingerless Gloves, Headbands, and Beanies. I'm pleased as punch with how it turned out.

Usually when I design I have general colour direction for each item in mind, then put fabrics together in a very instinctual way from my fabric stash. This time I approached designing with far more consideration and intent. I'll be honest it was a little challenging designing with a new level of cohesion. But it was rewarding to flex that part of my creative brain.

So much so that it's something I'm going to continue with in future. (At least sometimes).

You can find these merino mini collections at Blackbird Grove in Rangiora (located on Good Street).

If you're near Rangiora pop in and visit their gorgeous store, and maybe even find yourself some cosy merino.

Merino rules warmth. Being cold sucks.

It's Beanie season!

My eldest reached for his Merino Beanie yesterday, to wear under his helmet on a bike ride. Designed by him, from Mum's scraps stash 😜.

Kids Merino Beanies are light and comfy, and not itchy.

Perfect for kids who don't like wearing hats.

Each Beanie is fun and colourful, made from fabric scraps that would otherwise be waste.

Available online, and in store at Copperfield Collective.
