She spent 10 years becoming a doctor. PNG made her wait 9 months just to work. 🩺🏥

Dr. Sylvania Anisa left PNG, studied medicine in Turkey, completed rotations in surgery, emergency, paediatrics, obstetrics and more — then came home ready to serve her people.

Nine months later, the PNG Medical Board still hasn't registered her.

No updates. No timeline. No explanation.

"It is heartbreaking to return home wanting to serve my people and be met with silence."

And she's not alone. PNG has no standardised medical licensing exam, no digital verification system — applications are processed manually with zero public information on wait times. In Australia, credentials are verified in a week.

Meanwhile, PNG has just 0.5 doctors per 10,000 people — one of the lowest ratios in the world.

We are begging for doctors in our hospitals. And we are turning them away at the desk.

The Medical Board did not respond to requests for comment.
