𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐀 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 | 𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝐄𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐲: 𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐈𝐄𝐃 𝐊𝐍𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒

𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐬 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐥.

As the Allied Knights’ Table Tennis athlete raises her arms, stillness radiates across the room; the cheers are hushed and the anticipation peaks. Donning her jersey of teal, the player carries the excellence of her team. In a blink of an eye, this is the moment where stillness becomes a foundation of speed and tenacity.
With her chance to serve, a single thought fills her mind, “One serve, and this will be a make or break.” Palpable tension spans across the room—it is heard in the stomps of feet, and the ball when it hits the table. But beyond those, quiet determination buzzes from each athlete to the next. With an abundance of culmination of hardwork and support, the room almost feels too small.

Like any other room in SPC, the ST 703 is witness to victory and defeat. From the dreary mornings of lectures to the long nights of quizzes, the room has heard mundane chatters and tired sighs. And as though the seventy years of SPC’s core values have long been imprinted on the walls of each room, they are continuously being instilled in every students’ minds. But, on the second day of the SPC’s Intramurals, those core values are ever so evident— these are already illuminated from the moment the players steady their stance, the cheer committee raises their voices, and to the moment the ball is served. And, as long as there is a room available to foster greatness, an SPC student is given an avenue to shine like the stars as they are.

The cheers will eventually fade, the teal jerseys will be taken off, and the room will return to its quiet stillness. But, the memory of that eventful Tuesday will remain in the spirits of the SPC students involved. For how ablazed their spirits were that day, it does not matter who won or who lost. The Allied Knights athletes have put in their might, and along that, are the perseverance and tenacity they have practiced weeks before the game. Yet, the excellence simply does not end within the confines of the room; it transcends beyond places and even time. Instilled in every spirit of an SPCian, excellence and loving service are exuded even as the Intramurals will come to an end. Whether it is on the second day of intramurals, or the years ahead of that, excellence will ensure it leaves its mark.
