FIVE ARRESTED IN CALOOCAN OVER ALLEGED ROBBERY ATTEMPT
The Philippine National Police (PNP), through the Highway Patrol Group–Special Operations Division (HPG-SOD), arrested five individuals during a law enforcement operation in Caloocan City on Friday, May 8, 2026.
The operation was conducted along A. Mabini Street, Barangay Maypajo, following intelligence information on an alleged failed robbery attempt involving armed individuals reportedly targeting a condominium unit inside Habito Residence.
Operatives from HPG-SOD, in coordination with other police units, immediately responded to the report, which led to the interception and arrest of the suspects.
During the operation, one of the suspects, a dismissed police personnel who previously held the rank of Police Staff Sergeant, allegedly attempted to draw a firearm while resisting arrest. Law enforcement personnel responded accordingly, resulting in the suspect sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg. He was immediately provided medical assistance and brought to a nearby hospital under police custody.
Recovered from the suspects were two handguns, two cellular phones, and one Toyota Innova allegedly used in the commission of the offense.
Authorities are conducting further investigation and evidence processing to determine additional circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify possible other persons involved.
PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. emphasized that accountability applies to all individuals, regardless of previous affiliation with the organization.
“Ang sinumang lumabag sa batas ay mananagot, lalo na kung ginamit ang dating katungkulan sa maling paraan. We will not tolerate any form of abuse or misconduct, whether committed by civilians or those in uniform. Tinitiyak natin na ang PNP ay patas at mahigpit sa pagpapatupad ng batas,” PGen Nartatez said.
The PNP reiterated its commitment to uphold the rule of law and ensure that all law enforcement operations are conducted professionally, with due regard for human rights and public safety.
This operation forms part of the PNP Focused Agenda under Enhanced Managing Police Operations, in support of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive for a safer and more secure nation.
The organization likewise continues to strengthen its campaign against criminality under the guiding principle of “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.”
