President Bongbong Marcos has just declared a state of national energy emergency through Executive Order 110. What does it mean? It means the government is stepping in to actively manage limited fuel and power supply.
Expect fuel supply to be prioritized. Essential sectors like hospitals, power plants, and public transport get first access. Private use may be limited in the near future.
Possible fuel restrictions may be implemented. This can include purchase limits, scheduled fueling, or reduced use of government vehicles.
Electricity conservation measures may be put in place. The aim is to reduce consumption across offices and malls. Rotational brownouts are possible if supply tightens especially now that we’re entering summer.
Government can now use emergency powers. It means faster procurement, subsidies, and direct control over energy distribution to stabilize the situation.
Mobility and operations may need to be adjusted. This means more reliance on public transport, remote work, and reduced travel to conserve energy.
Simply put, a state of national energy emergency means supply is under stress, and the government is going to aggressively manage scarcity. This is actually good news. It means we’re now taking this crisis seriously. 🇵🇭
