Environmentally friendly ba yarn!? 🧶

Yes, actually! Some yarn are environmentally friendly! Which means, yes

❤️‍🩹 CREATING YOUR OWN CLOTHES! ❤️
Is a great alternative to fast fashion.

Creating your own clothes can come in many different ways, and one of our favorites is
💥CROCHETING 💥

A lot of sustainable yarn are made from
☁️ ORGANIC COTTON
🎍 BAMBOO
🌱 H**P OR FLAX PLANT FIBERS
🍌 BANANA OR CORN HUSKS FIBERS
And each process using these requires only little water and reduces the use of synthetic materials.

We even have WOOL AND ALPACA YARN! From the fleece of sheep, goats, and alpacas! 🐑🐐🦙

And with fast fashion usually involving unethical labor practices— long hours, low wages— making your own clothes can give you assurance that it was made in an ethical manner.

🩷 Crazy Touch by Chesca 🩷, a crochet shop run by 14-year-old Chesca, also shows the personalization that comes with crocheting your own clothes. Chesca’s work illustrates to us the beauty of fashion that is uniquely yours and made with time, effort, & love. Two projects below are of patterns she had tested! These crocheted pieces will be with her for a long time because of their high quality and longevity, which means lowering the need to frequently replace your clothes and throw out old ones! 🌸

SUSTAINABLY CHIC💙

Stressing about what to wear? Start a capsule wardrobe to lessen the stress and double the SLAY💅🏻! In this photo, a white T-shirt is paired with a black skort which makes up a timeless outfit that can either be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. A white T-shirt is an essential part of a capsule wardrobe as it can easily be paired with anything. The same goes for basic bottoms such as a skort that could be used for a casual daytime look or a more formal night look.

WHAT IS A CAPSULE WARDROBE?

A capsule wardrobe typically refers to a collection of essential clothing items that don't go out of fashion, can be mixed and matched, and are suitable for various occasions. The idea is to encourage mindful consumption by investing in quality, versatile pieces that last longer, rather than constantly buying trendy, disposable clothing.

HOW DOES A CAPSULE WARDROBE HELP TO BECOME SUSTAINABLE?

Reduced consumption
Capsule wardrobes encourage individuals to buy fewer but higher quality and versatile pieces of clothing. By doing so, they contribute to reduced consumption, which helps in minimizing the overall environmental impact of the fashion industry.

Longevity of clothing
Sustainable fashion emphasizes the importance of investing in durable and timeless clothing items. These align closely with the philosophy of a capsule wardrobe, where the focus is on maintaining a collection of classic, long-lasting pieces that can be worn for several seasons.

Minimized waste
Capsule wardrobes advocate for mindful shopping, reducing the amount of clothing that ends up in landfills. This is in line with the sustainable fashion movement's aim to minimize waste by promoting clothing recycling, upcycling, and encouraging consumers to repurpose or donate their clothing rather than dispose of them.

Ethical sourcing
Both sustainability and capsule wardrobes emphasize the importance of understanding the supply chain and sourcing practices of the clothing we buy. This encourages consumers to support brands prioritizing ethical labor practices, fair wages, and environmentally friendly production methods.

Focus on versatility
Capsule wardrobes encourage selecting pieces that can be styled in multiple ways, making them suitable for various occasions. This reduces the need to purchase multiple items for different events, promoting a more sustainable approach to dressing.

HOW TO CURATE YOUR OWN CAPSULE WARDROBE?
- Looking at what is available in your closet and identifying essential pieces
- Investing in high-quality pieces
- Focusing on items that are timeless and classic designs
- Donating or upcycling clothes that are no longer in use
- Supporting sustainable and ethical brands or going thrifting

🌿 The Art of Ukay-Ukay Fashion 🌿

In a world of ever-changing trends and fast fashion, there's a refreshing alternative that's not only fashion-forward but also environmentally conscious. Ukay-ukay fashion, a term derived from the Filipino word "halukay," meaning to dig or rummage, embodies the spirit of treasure hunting. It's about discovering hidden gems, not just in clothing but also in the quest for sustainability.

💸 BUDGET FRIENDLY 💸

As college freshies, this is one of our favorite alternatives because it's no secret that ukay-ukay finds are budget-friendly 🤓. You can revamp your wardrobe without breaking the bank, making fashion accessible to all. 🧸

🎀 With Ukay-ukay, anyone can create a style of their own, something that’s often unachievable with mass-produced fashion. 🎀

⚪️ CIRCULAR FASHION ⚪️

Supporting ukay-ukay means participating in circular fashion—keeping clothing in circulation for longer 🌀. This reduces the pressure to constantly buy new clothes AND repeatedly throwing out old ones.

Ukay-ukay extends the life of clothing, bringing down the need for mass production and textiles. Fast fashion generates tons of ‼️ textile waste ‼️— or materials thrown away throughout the production process— each year, contributing to landfills and environmental degradation.

Additionally, fast fashion often involves exploitative labor practices and poor working conditions.
In contrast, ukay-ukay fashion offers a sustainable antidote to these problems. 🔆

🪴🌷 By choosing secondhand clothing, we reduce waste, conserve resources, and cast a vote for a more ethical and eco-conscious fashion industry. So, let's embrace the art of ukay-ukay fashion—a journey that not only enhances our personal style but also supports a brighter, greener, and more sustainable future. Together, we can make fashion a force for good.

Fast fashion is the quick production of affordable clothing for mass-market consumers. The idea of fast fashion is to get the newest styles of clothing out into the market while the demand is high, causing the rapid use of non-renewable resources such as fossil fuels, water, and raw materials. ‼️

In the Philippines, clothing was not as accessible as it is today and now that it is, the demand for fast fashion has increased.

The fashion industry, as of date, utilizes huge amounts of water for textile production, mostly for cotton cultivation and wet processes of textile manufacturing such as bleaching, dyeing, printing, and finishing. This results in water scarcity in local waters in which textile manufacturing is done. It produces large quantities of wastewater which pollutes the local ecosystem, displaying how the production of these clothes consumes a massive amount of the country’s natural resources.

According to a recent survey done by YouGov Omnibus, Filipino adults threw away 65% of their clothes in 2017. Every year, mountains of disposable clothing are thrown away in landfills as new fashion trends are being introduced weekly.
