No Mother. No Father. No Family Beside His Coffin. Only a Handful of Friends and Just Silence
Looking at these photos breaks my heart.
Divine Adili was not just a basketball player. He was someone's son. Someone's brother. Someone's dream.
He came to the Philippines carrying hopes for a better future. He trained hard, sacrificed, and gave everything he had on the court. Had he been given the chance to fully prove himself, many Filipinos would probably have rallied behind him, perhaps even one day calling for his naturalization to represent our country. That was how much potential he carried.
Yet today, he lies in a coffin far away from home.
What hurts even more is that there are no parents beside him. No family members embracing each other in grief around his casket. Imagine that. A young man dies in a foreign land, and the people who loved him most cannot even be there to look at him one last time.
And somehow, his passing has not received the same attention it deserves. I understand that we give preference to our fellow Filipino in Rene. But we do not also forget that they are two similar human beings whose lives were cut short by the same infamous training. And to know that he wanted to save Rene from drowning proves he's a beautiful soul.
Divine deserves our prayers just as much. Divine deserves our compassion just as much. Divine deserves justice and accountability just as much.
Let us not allow his story to fade into silence. We also:
Pray for Divine Adili.
Remember Divine Adili.
And demand the truth for Divine Adili.
Because every life matters. Every son matters. Every family deserves answers.
Rest in peace, Divine. You came here with dreams. You should have had the chance to live them.
