With September being thyroid cancer awareness month it is only right for me to share information about this type of cancer.
โข
๐ฆThyroid cancer is 3 times more likely in women than men. It is usually diagnosed at an earlier age unlike other adult cancers. It is the most common endocrine cancer. Your thyroid is responsible for regulating your heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, weight and more. In other words if there is something wrong with your thyroid it puts your whole body to pot! There are 4 types of thyroid cancer; papillary, follicular, medullary and anaplastic. The first (papillary) being the most common.

โHere are the signs to look out forโ
๐ฆA lump that can be felt at the front of the neck
๐ฆSwollen lymph nodes on neck
๐ฆChanges to your voice, typically hoarseness
๐ฆDifficulty swallowing or breathing
๐ฆPain from the neck or throat
โข
Do a neck check- look for your thyroid gland in the mirror (lower front of neck in the middle, just above collarbones). Tip your head back and take a drink of water while watching. When swallowing check for any bulges, you may have to repeat this. A bulge could be an enlarged thyroid gland or a nodule.
Check your neck, and if you have any concerns contact your GP. If you are experiencing any symptoms donโt think the worst as there are other explanations. But we know our bodies and fight for answers if there is a need.
