SUSTAINED PNP OPS IN CORDILLERA ERADICATE OVER ₱234-M WORTH OF MA*****NA

The Philippine National Police (PNP), through the Police Regional Office Cordillera Administrative Region (PRO CAR), intensified its sustained anti-illegal drug operations in the region, resulting in the destruction of more than ₱234 million worth of ma*****na from May 18 to 24, 2026.

Reports submitted to the PNP national headquarters showed that 11 ma*****na eradication operations were successfully conducted in the provinces of Kalinga and Benguet during the weeklong campaign.

The continuing operations led to the eradication of 1,140,000 fully grown ma*****na plants with a Standard Drug Price amounting to ₱234,210,800.00.

PNP authorities said the accomplishment reflects the sustained operational focus of the organization against illegal drug activities, particularly ma*****na cultivation in remote areas, under the PNP Focused Agenda on Enhanced Managing Police Operations. The campaign also supports the peace and order initiatives of the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. aimed at keeping communities safe and secure.

PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. lauded the operating units for their commitment and persistence in carrying out difficult operations in mountainous areas of the Cordillera.

These sustained operations show our firm commitment to public safety and lawful police action,” PGen Nartatez said.

The PNP emphasized that anti-illegal drug operations nationwide will continue through intelligence-driven and community-supported initiatives, in line with the Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.

OVER 1,000 PNP PERSONNEL FACE ADMIN CHARGES IN Q1 2026

The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported that more than 1,000 of its personnel were placed under administrative proceedings in the first quarter of 2026, as part of its intensified efforts to uphold discipline and accountability within the ranks.

Data from the Internal Affairs Service (IAS) show that from January to March this year, a total of 1,048 personnel were charged in 490 administrative cases—higher than the figures recorded in the same period last year, indicating a more proactive internal monitoring and response system.

Of those charged, 806 are Police Non-Commissioned Officers and 242 are Police Commissioned Officers, reflecting that accountability measures are being implemented across all levels of the organization.

To date, the IAS has recommended 323 personnel for administrative sanctions, including 41 dismissals, 64 suspensions, 20 demotions, and 11 reprimands. Meanwhile, 187 personnel were exonerated, underscoring the Service’s commitment to due process and fairness.

Compared to the same period in 2025, when 770 personnel were charged in 332 cases, this year’s figures show a clear increase, reflecting the PNP’s stronger internal accountability efforts and more consistent enforcement of discipline across the ranks.

PNP Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., stressed that discipline remains non-negotiable in the police service.

Kapag may pagkukulang, kailangan itong harapin at itama. We owe the people a police organization that acts with integrity at all times,” he said.

He added that the PNP will continue to strengthen its internal processes to ensure that misconduct is addressed promptly while protecting those who perform their duties with honesty and professionalism.

“We are firm when it comes to accountability, but we are also fair. Our goal is not just to correct lapses, but to build a culture where doing what is right becomes the standard,” the Chief PNP said.

These efforts form part of the PNP’s continuing push under its Focused Agenda, particularly on strengthening Integrity Monitoring to reinforce internal discipline and accountability systems. This direction is consistent with the broader governance thrust of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to strengthen public trust in institutions.

The PNP emphasized that sustained internal actions are yielding tangible results—demonstrating that accountability is actively enforced and that discipline remains a cornerstone of the service, in line with its commitment to Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman.

The suspect and the seized items are now under the custody of the Sofronio Española MPS for proper legal disposition.

“This operation reinforces our commitment to go after smuggling networks that exploit our coastal areas. We will continue to pursue intelligence-driven actions to cut off illegal supply chains and protect lawful trade,” PGEN Nartatez said.

The accomplishment underscores the continuing implementation of the PNP Focused Agenda—a strategic framework of transformation designed to make police service more responsive and results-driven. At the heart of this agenda are key priorities that define the course of the PNP, particularly Enhanced Managing Police Operations, which drives sustained enforcement efforts against illicit activities.

“Our presence on the ground remains strong, especially in vulnerable coastal areas where illegal trade persists. We will maintain pressure through consistent operations and strict enforcement of the law,” PGEN Nartatez added.

As the PNP intensifies its campaign against smuggling and other unlawful activities under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., it continues to assure the public of “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong mabilis, tapat, at nararamdaman.”
