"Paano ka na lang pag wala na ako?"

My mom used to say this whenever I was looking for something only she could find, my missing socks before school, a snack hidden at the back of the cabinet, that one shirt I swore was lost forever. She could always find it. She could always give it.
Back then, I’d roll my eyes not realizing that she wasn’t just talking about socks or food. She was talking about life. About the day she wouldn’t be here anymore.
Now that she’s really gone, I hear those words differently.
Now when I can’t find the strength, the comfort, the love that only she could give… I catch myself whispering, “Paano na ako?”
And maybe that’s the answer, I carry her with me. In the way I take care of myself. In the way I care for others. In every ginisang sayote I try to cook just like hers.
I still don’t know exactly how to live without her… but I’m trying. For her. Always for her. ❤️
